Kinja'd!!!

What are the wierdest license plates you’ve seen?

For further detail on the Q5 plates; the Mexican federal government doesn’t issue plates often like the European governments, instead, each state must issue its own plates. The Feds only issue plates for Diplomats, the Federal Police, Transport and Cargo, and Tourism that I know of.

Senators also get special stickers that go on their windshields so that they don’t get ticketed.

These aren’t even the weirdest! This time I went to the mall, I parked next to this brand new seven series BMW with really beat up and old looking plates reading “SRE CON HON” It only had four digits and for privacy reasons I wont be uploading a picture of those.

Kinja'd!!!

SRE stands for Secretariat of Foreign Relations. Basically diplomat plates. But the rest of diplomatic plates in Mexico look different. either way, both of those looked like they were Federal plates

Kinja'd!!!

But my favs are the old Mexico City plates, looking all offical and shit! With a picture of the angel.

I still occasionally see bicentennial Virginia plates in use.

This is Doug DeMuro-wall material. It’s sweet, but such an obscure thing to have a plate for.

Also, the people that drive MY 2016 and newer vehicles with On My Mind plates. The plates have basically decomposed and they’re on brand new cars.

Pick one? I can’t that’s why I use the blue ones.

Strange because it’s on a car designed with gov’t loans and benefiting from a tax credit from the gov’t, charging at a charge station built from a federal grant, but thinks the gov’t should stay out of his business.

Not the weirdest, but I opted for the Mountain Lion Conservation plates on my Alfa:

There is are special ones with a graphic on the left side: a sheild for fire fighters, a poppy for war veterans, etc.

Back when Ontario issued plates yearly with the year stamped on the plate, the 1967 ones had ‘Confederation’ on the bottom (centennial of confederation). As long as the combination isn’t taken, the plate can be used on any classic car of the same model year (yearly plates stopped in ’73).

That’s mostly why I’d want a classic from ’67, plus the colours that year are the reverse of the current Ontario plate colours.

Probably just run-of-the-mill NWT polar bear plates.

I mean, the US hands out diplomatic ones like candy. I’ve seen far more of those than NWT ones. Hell, I’ve seen more EU plates on the street than these.

Gadsden flag on an $80k+ vehicle... definitely a white dude with a severe persecution complex. Although usually I see these on lifted diesels.

Virginia plates did that until the early 1970s as well (1972 IIRC), and can also still be used if they match the year of the car. Every now and then I’ll see a classic with old plates, but usually they just have the generic black and white antique plate.

A friend of mine had a decorative NWT polar bear plate on his car for awhile, when he lived in a place that doesn’t require front plates.

OEDIPUS

It was strange. I have a picture somewhere too.

In terms of actual pl8s I have a set from Aruba. Apparently every car gets new plates every year in a fun and exciting color, so I got a set of the previous years as a souvenir. They’re orange.

I really liked Quebec plates when I went to Canada. “Je me souviens” feels so apt.

Its like New Hampshire with “live free or die”

Many Mexican don’t actually have regulations (or didn’t have) regarding license plates formats (as long as your tags are up to date and the lettering is visible)
