I’m busy with stuff today and I miss the juicy moderation opportunities (I don’t know what was shared) :(

Between Lucille Bluth and Mallory Archer, Jessica Walter is freaking awesome, and I love this gif.

I love Walter, she is almost as snarky as I am.

Great characters both of them.

Kinja'd!!!

Just doesn’t fall in the share guidelines. Not offensive, just doesn’t

Hmm, I’m confused - she plays both Lucille Bluth and Mallory Archer, and is fantastic in both.

I’ve seen worse. Shares, that is.

I was under the impression that the cross-thread was grandfathered in to an extent, having been created way back when as a metathread pan-kinja sort of thing. The sharing being an artifact of its nature as a metathread, originating on each of the Kinja “clubhouses” in its turn.

Not that I shared it, I just wasn’t really in the head space to think of its propriety as a share before.

Maybe. I was under the impression that any outside “clubhouse” article you wanted to share had to be with in an article you write or embodied inside of a post instead of just a straight share. At least that is how the rules and sharing guidelines have always seemed to be.

It isn’t like this is a bad share or anything, just doesn’t fall within Oppo’s share guidelines and if we are going to berate the bad ones, then they all need to be taken down and shared properly.

I get that, really I do. I just seem to have the recollection that our current rules on share abuse post-date the existence of the cross-threads, and a thread which by its nature is addressed to the denizens of a forum that it is shared to (!) is somewhat immune to the criticism of not being tailored content - if only somewhat, because there are multiple forums of address.

It also skirts the potential issues with people doing fiefdoms in their own content blogs out of moderating reach of the mods, by its nature as a main-blog post on each of the primary former offtopic boards.

Cross threads were not considered during the sharing rule redo (cause honestly I just forgot) but they are the opposite of the reasoning behind the new rules. Cross posts are all about discussion and creating Harmony in the kinjaverse.

They aren’t promoting a story

They do not come from paid properties

The discussion happens, effectively, in oppo since the cross post authors work hard to ungray and incorporate members

The group is primarily oppo users anyway.

This is the same as a share from live and let die cast or o&e.

If it makes you feel better I’ll make changes to the document to be extra clear on these matters

The main gist of that rule was regarding unsolicited shares and primarily from paid properties. This is neither

My impressions was that rule only applied to articles from the main kinja blogs, not the community ones. The rules are different between the two. The rules distinctly differentiate sharing from gawker properties, with sharing from personal properties. Unfortunately, while they provide detailed rules about what to do with gawker properties, they simply say this about personal properties:

2. With regards to posts and comments from personal properties, we ask that you stick to the guidelines and rules already laid out by Gamecat.

That’s not so helpful, as I at least have no idea what or where the Gamecat rules are. My assumption has always been that that just mean follow normal oppo rules (no NSFW, controversial topics behind safety images, etc.)

Also of relevance:

Gawker properties pay their authors, personal properties are still part of gawker and the kinjaverse, but are run by users. Generally speaking personal properties on kinja are going to all be roughly the same size an scale which is the important distinction worth making between the two. Also, please respect other communities guidelines for sharing content to AND from them.

I am happy to have the clarification and to learn something new. Thank you for the insight and fair ruling. Yes an update would be nice, when time allows of course.

I guess that makes good sense that if it is all good natured and non promotional that then it should have different allowances for sharing.

As a side note, something that is expressly stated in that rule is to not complain about shares...

Bring it to us directly if we don’t take care of it.

You know what? thats my fault. I didn’t state that the gamecat rules were the rules bellow that line. I just took from his version of the sharing rules and incorperated them in my new post but wasn’t exactly clear what they were. I’ve edited to clarify. here are gamecats original sharing rules:

Please do not share any post more than once after its original publication, with the following exceptions:

If you shared your post, and due to Kinja issues, it was not seen as it was meant to be presented, in these cases, preface your reshare with an explanation. We understand that kinja works in mysterious ways (and Nibbles is still with us, somewhere).

If there is a theme day and after a time less than four hours your post is more than 6 pages back.

For posts which are recurring and benefit the community as a whole (such as posts from moderators discussing the community, like this one) or benefiting a subgroup of the community in organizing an event (meetups, for instance) then slightly more periodic resharing may be appropriate. However when in doubt about this, please ask before sharing.

If more than one week has passed from the date of the original share, and the topic is still highly relevant and would, in your eyes, benefit the community, you may re-share a topic once again.

When sharing a comment from a post (your own or someone else’s), please follow this guide: Does the comment as it will appear on Oppo (e.g. the first paragraph) stand alone, on its own, as a post, which will lead people to want to read more or is self-evident as to why it was shared without any additional context ? If it doesn’t meet this, we tend to look negatively at the share, because essentially, it is just noise.
