My uncle, when faced with such a dilemma, would find the biggest screwdriver in the box and skewer the filter. Sure, oil got everywhere, but with the improvised filter handle, there was plenty of leverage.

Lots of good ideas there. That is, good ideas for tools to purchase. I was looking for something to remove the fuel filter on my boat, which has an aluminum housing and a cartridge filter inside, so you really don’t want to damage the housing. But I don’t have to take it off until spring, so...

I have one of these kinds. adequete. better then the fabric, and due to the 90deg handle able to get in tighter spots then the rubber strap kind.
