I’m thinking to clean the bottom of the engine and attempt an external oil leak seal using Flex Seal. If it works, great! If not well I still have a leaky Northstar.

I will give you $10 if it lasts more than a month.

I don’t see how it could adhere properly if it’s got any oil on it. Thats why people clean their oil pan very well before applying a RTV sealant/gasket maker.

If I can’t get it clean then obvs a no go. If I can though, much better than pulling the engine to fix the gasket

But the surfaces that sandwich the gasket are the parts that have to be clean. To clean those, you’ll have to take it apart, and if you did that you could just replace the gasket.

Just spraying over the edges won’t last I don’t think. If it would, rednecks would of already figured it out, and hold it in high regard with duct tape.

Even if it lasts less than a month, that’s still an improvement!

Please...just don’t. Northstars get treated badly enough as it is for their unfortunate design faults. Flex seal is just adding insult to injury.

It’s a fact of life that Northstars leak. If it’s just a seep or small drip, count your blessings and leave it alone. If it’s worse than that, well, try an external fix first (for science!) before subjecting yourself to pulling it out and replacing the gasket(s)

Are you sure it’s not the oil filter housing seal leaking? That leak looks an awful lot like an oil pan leak, but is a lot simpler to fix. A $5 gasket and three bolts, and you’re done. Is there a spot of oil dripping off the center of the oil filter? If so, my money is on the filter adapter gasket. I’ve done two on different Caddy devilles, and the last one I did, I swore it was an oil pan leak, but I figured I’d start with the filter adapter gasket, and sure enough, that was the culprit.

But worse case, if it’s the oil pan gasket for sure, you can swap out the head bolts while you have the engine pulled to bulletproof the thing.

Pretty sure it’s the oil pan gasket. The leak is big and has a very square, oil-panny pattern to it

It’s dropping a quart every 250 miles. It’s been treated bad already. I’m just attempting a band-aid until I can afford the time and effort to yank and replace.

Apparently rednecks already have it figured out, it’s been done on older FE Fords and 7.3 IDIs

Time to swap in a 3800-series? Or, more expensive but potentially more rewarding: I thought I saw a forum where both the SBc and modern 3.6L V6 is a fairly-easy swap for Northstar applications.

This thing puts out 295 hp and 290 hp. If I swap with anything it’ll be at or above those numbers - no 3800.

I have been doing a bit of research trying to figure out what it’d take to get a 6T80 and an LS[something] swapped over. Hint: It’s a LOT.
