Should I just clean it and somehow repair it? Should I consider replacing it with a similar color fabric? Have a City Turbo II for your trouble.

I think that is totally overboard, and so that’s probably going to be a no. It doesn’t fit the concept either. No Type R has a red headliner. Black maybe? But I think they’re all grey like mine.

When my headliner fell down I solved the problem by being lazy about fixing it until a hurricane totaled my car and I got a car with an intact headliner to replace it.

The headliner isn’t falling down at all. It has a hole in it (for reasons I can’t fathom) and stains. But it’s very secure.

Why not make it a red headliner? You already did the carpet in red. Why not get some red suede or headliner material, and have it recovered? You could do it yourself. Here’s a write up on how to do it on a GTO, so it should be fairly similar.

Headliners are simple and relatively inexpensive to replace. Your car shouldn’t need more than two yards, and that’s with covering the sun visors to match.

The sunvisors are vinyl in the same shade, I think, and they’re in perfect condition, so I won’t be messing with those either way.

Because it doesn’t fit the concept I want. Also, it’s too much red. Dark grey or black maybe?

This is too much red: http://www.gtoforum.com/f41/new-headliner-finally-36845/

Still two yards should more than cover it. I did Project Thanks Obama - a 1995 Dakota Club Cab - with two yards, a can of high-temp 3M spray adhesive, and a Saturday. Remove, prep by removing old material and scrubbing adhesive off, plan, cut, adhere and install all took about 3 hours. Had about half a yard left, all said and done.

I would do black then. I had my headliner recovered in black suede, and it looks great.

That is entirely too much red. It took me forever to find my blue GTO, with a solid black interior. I am not a fan of having blue seats and blue panels on the door. Only the stitching is blue, and everything else is black.

I’ve got the red seats and the red carpeting, red accents (my steering wheel doesn’t have red stitched leather, just black stitched leather, but some versions came with it that way, I’d love to get mine redone), and I’m planning to put red slats in black door cards. I think doing a red liner would definitely be too much.

Black is probably the best choice.

How did you stain your headliner? Actually... Don’t answer that. Black replacement would look good. If you’re really trying to be fancy you could throw some sound deadening sheets in at the same time

Black sounds like the best choice. If you do end up putting a black headliner in make sure you cover all of the pillars in black material as well. Or paint the plastic black if you cannot cover them. It will look much better having the top half of the interior all black versus it being black and gray.

I didn’t. Previous owner(s) did? Honestly, I think I’m the third or fourth, maybe fifth, owner of this Logo. I know of two previous owners to me, but I don’t think the prior prior owner was the original owner. I do know that the two previous owners did not take care of it, and the immediate prior owner (who is still around, she got married and they went down to a single car) says I’ve done so much work on it she hardly recognises it as the same car. A lot of that has to do with my constant improvement of the body work and my total redo of the interior.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. That may be difficult. And I want to avoid actually painting plastic pieces with a few exceptions.

To answer your question, I’m not sure I see a way of repairing a hole. I think you’re always going to know it’s there, no matter how good of a job is done. Any chance you might be able to find what you’re looking for at a salvage yard? I imagine that piece would be pretty cheap, as demand shouldn’t be all that high.

I’ve had good luck spot cleaning with hand sanitizer and a soft rag (this is what the place that did my headliner suggested). That said, professional replacement isn’t hugely expensive and, as others have pointed out, gives you another chance at customization.

Good afternoon Kat, do they not have upholstery shops in JP? Drive to one, get sold on something nice and have them do it.
