Kinja'd!!!

1966 because Ttyymmnn’s birthday...

I’m a middle class earner who is being hammered by ACA insurance rates already. I don’t need liberal media to tell me that this tax plan is just another plunder of the middle class; I can read about that in the Wall Street Journal.

I already ran my numbers. I’ll pay a few hundred dollar more a year and my incentive to give to charity will be diminished (ie, the new standard deduction is too high) I don’t see much of anything good in this except the simplification, which seems like just pandering to lazy people.

Single income family of four, upper middle income. Itemizing since 2004.

I would complain about a giveaway to the rich, but I’d risk being labeled a liberal media addict. We’re married, but upper middle income and right where they want me with their Vaseline.

I have a hard time seeing these plans as anything but a bait and switch for the rich to get richer. Frankly this is a lose/lose. If it passes its a lose for wealth disparity, if it doesn’t its a lose for the party. Frankly if the party knows this is a lose/lose (and they do, they’ve said as much) at least take the lose that doesn’t hurt millions to safe party face.

For all their whining and screaming about Obama’s accrual of debt, republicans really have no interest in doing anything about it.

Cut taxes, but spend just as much, if not more.

Last time I checked, my current year would come out slightly higher. But the new plan does offer potential for a big boost in the future because of the corporate rate change.

But even though I’d stand to gain personally, I think this is a terrible plan.

I’ve lived through seeing my income rise over the years and at some point of covering all your fixed costs, yes — you CAN afford to pay more. And you should. Individuals. Corporate taxes just get passed along to customers, so I’m not too keen on changing those too drastically.

I’m not a dirty lib, I’m a pragmatist.

I see it the same. If the GOP doesn’t destroy itself in the next couple of years, I will be surprised. But they’re setting about destroying me, which is not making me happier.

I’m pretty pissed about this. I’m a right leaner but also a single parent. I pay more in state income taxes than I do on property taxes, even in California. I CAN’T BELIEVE they are taking the ability for me to deduct that.

Because screw California(ns). And when the ACA mandate is lifted and the healthy people start dropping their coverage, the insurers will raise rates again and we’ll take that in the shorts as well. My insurance for spouse and two or more dependents goes up to $1,800/mo for the cheapest plan available under ACA.

More debt/deficit and more trickle down fairytale that won’t work out, just like the past 35 years, what can go wrong?

It’s a lousy situation. I didn’t mind ACA when I qualified for the premium assistance. But I went over the household income limit and wound up with a $6,000 tax bill at the end of the year. Medical insurance premiums are out of control, but I bet the folks who own/run the insurers are doing just fine.

Adds to the deficit, individual cuts expire (and benefits are mixed bag at best for most people) while corporate cuts are permanent, ACA will slowly crumble even further and health insurance rates will rise even faster...but hey, their donors have said that if they don’t manage to get this done don’t come begging for more money in the future. So they’ve gotta do it - and they will. Because they too know that voters have very short-lived memories, and once a lot of this comes to haunt us a few years down the road they’ll have enough democrats back in office to just blame it on them.

Their bluff is finally being called. My boss keeps going the “the aca repeal failed because democrats didn’t get on board”. I fond this one of the dumbest comments I’ve heard a person say in the last year. the signature plan that the gop has been railing isn’t supported. who would have thought. The repeal failed becuase the GOP has been shouting rainbows and unicorns for last 7 years with no plan to effectively replace it.

My parents were like” uh what does this repeal mean for us”

“well millions of people of my generation will probably drop coverage leaving you and your generation up shit creek.”

“oh shit”

My only problem with the health care system as is is that it leaves us medium to upper medium income earners with medical expenses that take a larger than affordable portion of our income. I don’t quality for anything and as such pay about 400$ a month for two people + my employer pays another ~1100 a month (they count that towards my overall cost). On top of that I’m not covered until I pay my deductible which is 2400 a year and then I’m only covered at 80%. Last year with a butt cancer scare (suspected intestinal cancer) and my child’s allergies I paid about $6000 in medical fees after my premium. I ended up not having cancer YES! butt what an expense. (also that means my insurance company was billed ~20k)

Another thought on my intestinal cancer scare is that sometimes doctors are too reactive or that maybe more tests than needed are scheduled. I am not sure! I certainly didn’t enjoy my tests but glad they can say that at least at the moment I do not.

My personal feeling on the matter is that everyone should be provided care. However in Obama’s plan he was not transparent about the costs. I realize that insurance providers do make a profit but it’s not anything compared to what goes towards the doctors and medical and lab facilities. Medical care is expensive in the U.S., it’s not just the insurance providers, and it should be acknowledged that with his plan the fees that were waved to make it more affordable to some also made it less affordable to others. That said, I would never want to leave your parents without care and I’m sorry for this turmoil.

Kinja'd!!!

I think the lack of transparency is the result of the complete tangled web between doctors, insurance, hospitals, and pharmaceutical.

I had a supplier that was also in the medical device feild and they were saying how when they give a product to hospital it could be 6-9months after it was used* till they could be paid. And that is if it sat on a shelf for a year. so they have to raise prices 10% just to break even.

https://www.usnews.com/news/healthcare-of-tomorrow/articles/2017-03-09/hospitals-are-wasting-billions-of-dollars-worth-of-medical-equipment

I had a relative whose insurance made them have an xray before an mri. doctor “well this is just dumb. and the only reason they are making you do it is hoping that that there will be a problem with the bone and not the cartilage. they’ll make 10 people do this because if one has this lesser issure, it pays off once it make up the difference.
