Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Looks like the 2.5 Turbo from the CX-9 is going to find a new home under the hood of the 2018 6.

Rumor mills are also saying available all-wheel-drive. A salesman I know on Facebook that runs the MazdaMovement Facebook page has said that they’ve been told all-wheel-drive and a turbo are coming. The turbo has now been confirmed by Mazda. Just waiting on the all-wheel-drive announcement.

Good stuff. The main complaint with the 6 from the B&B has been lack of power (although I drive one every day and have never found it to feel slow). It’s not really slow - it’s just as quick as the Camry and other 4-cylinder family sedans. It just needs an optional engine to compete with the Camry and Accord’s optional engines (V6 and turbo four respectively).

Probably no manual is you want AWD, & the 2.3 turbo.

Well we have a new segment leader! The new accord is great too but a 6 with awd and the turbo would be as close to a mazdaspeed 6 as we’re gonna get

Cool news! The 6 is a nice car; what I would buy if I were looking for something in this segment. Agreed with 616 that it’s “sufficiently” powerful, but I’d still probably get the turbo.

So um, Mazda, as long as you’re investing in factory turbos...

Available with Manual too please!

I’ve driven my dads 6 a couple times and I’ve really enjoyed it. My main complaints were with the automatic (it’s a good automatic, I just don’t like not rowing my own) and that while it never felt too slow, it sometimes felt lacking for highway passing.

An available turbo with >250hp, >270lbs-ft of torque and a manual would make quite a compelling package.

If it has a manual available, even without AWD, I’d pick it over the Accord.

This could be like a little bit milder but more grown up version of my old Mazdaspeed 6, hopefully with significantly less premature rust and interior rattles.

This is awesome news! I really like my parent’s 6, and there is a universe in which I would own one as a driving to work car. While they’re sufficiently powered now, the option for a properly quick 6 would seal the deal if I were in the market for one.

More power never hurts. Apparently the 2.5 n/a takes 7.8s 0-100km/h which is acceptable, with about 40hp more it definitely should perform quite well. I’ve been thinking about getting a 2nd gen 6 in the past, but the lack of a V6 here in Europe and the therefor pretty weak engine lineup kinda keeps me from considering it. That and the fact that you can get an ‘05+ GS300 for not a lot more.

That 2.5 Turbo would be nice - and I’d much rather have it in a Mazda than a Fiata.

I know, right. I’m kind of glad, though, because if they introduced the wagon here, I’d be majorly tempted to go trade my sedan in on one.
