Kinja'd!!!

Slowly, the Saab and I are reaching a detente. After it’s breakdown on the 400 mile road trip and subsequent resurrection , I have been somewhat hesitant to drive it to work. Mostly the idea of breaking down in rush hour when I have someplace to be is... unpleasant. Unfortunately, this is the bulk of my driving these days, but I am trying to make the Saab my designated “errand runner” for the moment.

Trust is a hard thing. When I car is running and you’re always waiting for the other shoe to drop it can be stressful and frustrating, but it worth it. A car that isn’t driven needs to be owned by someone else.

Eventually it will get back to commute duty, but for the time being I’m just going to side-eye it as I jump into the Volvo...

I had the same problem with my A4. Every little clunk or rattle put me on edge. I was in constant fear of another wallet destroying repair. Sadly we never came to see eye to eye and it eventually got traded.

Just use it as an errand-runner/second car for now. Grocery shopping, etc. where it doesn’t matter when you arrive. That is, until the little niggles get worked out. It’ll be running perfectly someday!

I have a 20 year old 900 Turbo 5 spd that was my daily driver for the last 19 years. A new job & clients required a new car. So its sidelined to street parking where the bumpers get abused and birds assault it regulary. The street cleaning shuffle puts me in it every 2 weeks when I have to flip it to the other side of the street for another 2 weeks.

But every time I get in it I smile. The leather still smells fantastic. The seats are wonderful. It always starts and settles to a perfect idle. Reliability was never an issue with this Saab.

It been nearly 2 years of this dance. It now needs a cooling sytem overhaul as the radiator is a getting a bit weepy and the coolant is now rusty water . It’s the first real issue. I don’t have the time or facilities to fix it for the forseable future. So for now our every other week routine continues.

I can’t sell it. It’s my Saab. There aren’t anymore so I’m keeping this one. It may not be smart but its the right decision for me. One day it will get the attention it deserves and once again will be my daily driver.
