Kinja'd!!!

BMW’s battery has finally had it. 3rd time in 2 weeks it’s died despite plenty of long drives. I’m supposed to be getting on a ferry in 45 minutes...

Buddy of mine had a 7 series. The light in the trunk stayed on with trunk closed and drained the battery. He only found it by climbing inside the trunk...

BMWs....

It’s completely random though, so I don’t think it’s a drain. I can let the car sit for 48 hours and it’ll start fine, then it’ll die after sitting for 8 while I’m at work.

The problem started on the first day of really cold weather so I’m calling battery rather than alternator.

Good luck. I would throw them both in the trash and get new shit.

Once the battery gets drained so low, they rarely work as they should. Probably damaged a cell or two and the temps just exacerbate the weak battery. Have you charged the battery via a charger lately? Once mine start acting up, I’ll throw them on a 3amp charge for a day or two and either they will be good to go, or time to swap out. I’m about 50/50 so far, depends on how low the battery gets before I figure out it needs a charge.

At least you don’t have a fucking liquid cooled alternator if you do need one.

I’m about to go on a two hour highway drive. If that doesn’t top it up, nothing will.

Either way, I already picked up a new battery on my way to the boat. I’ll swap it out when I have the time.

Yeah, if there’s a bad cell, it’ll charge up but not hold the charge to save it’s life. Batteries can be fickle. Sounds like you have the right idea with the replacement. It’s just not worth the inconveniences they cause when they don’t act right.

time to bite the bullet and buy a new battery.
