What is it?

edit: I see it’s tagged as a Toyota Venza. Not available in my market. Anyway, it looks rather tall. More MPV/crossover than wagon. Park it next to a BMW 3-series wagon (or similar) and you’ll see the major difference. There’s no sedan or hatchback version of this, correct?

Actually the Venza was available in the Netherlands. Whether or not anyone actually bought one is another story. The sedan version of this would be the widebody Camry. The closest thing to a wagon is the Highlander crossover. These came about along with the Honda Crosstour to fill a niche of “sporty and stylish non-premium” crossovers inspired by pricier things like the BMW X6. They actually sold pretty well the first year or two, but after that most buyers opted for the more traditional and practical three box shape. The Nissan Murano and Ford Edge are somewhat similar in concept, but are more appealingly packaged and have survived for multiple generations. The C-HR is sort of the spiritual successor to the Venza - another less practical version of a practical design. But the C-HR is smaller and cheaper so it makes more sense as a toy.

They were? Never seen one. Looking for used ones I find very few. There are 3 on Mobile.de; 2 in Germany, 1 in Latvia. The German ones are LHD but both have the speedometer in miles (=US import), I didn’t check the Latvian one. Are you not mistaking this for the Verso?

I saw some photos of one wearing NL plates - maybe someone was crazy enough to import it from the US?
