I know this is crazy, but hear me out. I sorta kinda respect the OG Highlander.
Every Lexus RX I’ve ever ridden in is both boring and not quite plush enough of a ride. Even without navigation, the old ones have this goofy screen so updating it to a modern stereo gets complicated.
The Highlander is more comfy, more useful because of its boxy shape, still pretty small by modern crossover standards, and the ’04-’07 V6 has the 3.3 liter V6 and 5-speed auto from the 2nd gen RX.
It’s built in Japan and has nice high build quality and interior before Toyota went all plasticky and chintzy with their newer interiors, especially US-built ones. If you skip the navigation there’s a standard double-DIN stereo opening. Each front seat has its own armrest like a minivan. Although it does have tacky-ass fake wood.
I kinda would dig an ’05-’07 Highlander Limted as a comfy cruiser to go with some other fun car.
