I started to watch Baby Driver last night.

Kinja'd!!!

Even though I know better, I couldn’t separate the ugly truth of a certain nobody from art at that moment and turned it off.

Eventually I will get to it. I won’t let Edgar Wright’s modern masterpiece be soiled by someone else’s criminal acts.

It definitely brings up a question: is it possible to separate art from the artist? For example, Jesse Lacey’s recent admission to sexual misconduct (although entirely sidestepping the fact that she was 15 and 24, with others also accusing him of some pretty garbage stuff). I love his music, with The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me being one of my favourite albums of all time, but the thing is, is it possible to listen to it and dissociate something that’s so personal from the person who made? I don’t have an answer, it’s just something I’ve been thinking about through all this. Because absolutely nothing excuses these acts, and I don’t want to support these artists still.

Funfact: This movie came out very close to Boss Baby, so I couldn’t separate the two concepts in my head. I kept imagining an infant with Colin McRae’s voice working as a hired wheelman.

I haven’t seen either.

Also, didn’t Kevin Spacey come out a long time ago? Shortly after American Beauty, IIRC.

I watched it, well, watched some, about 20 minutes. I must of fast forwarded about an hour stopping at five or ten minute intervals to see if anything interesting was going to happen. The last ten to 15 minutes I watched-ish, it was background noise while I was on the computer.

The ending was okay.

A friend who went to see it with me and several other family members said he’d been cheated because there were no babies - particularly no babies who were driving. FALSE ADVERTISING

The problem is the commercialization of said art makes it impossible to support the art and not the artist.

An actor’s characters are usually not the actors, so it certainly should be possible to watch their work without concerning yourself with their person. But knowing that the work supports them, especially if your viewing compensates them thanks to royalty fees, makes it difficult to do so while maintaining a lesser view of the actor.

I loved the film. It was a good story with a great soundtrack. Though, I watched this movie in theaters. I’d still like to rewatch the film, but I don’t know if I’ll view it differently. I listened to some Louis yesterday and it was pretty much the same. I don’t think his actions were really out of character, or on the same level as Spacey.

He never officially came out before, and that’s not the reason why watching him act has suddenly become more difficult.

You’ll need to explain since a bit. Who are you talking about? Did that Weinstein guy produce it? Honest question. I have no idea since I don’t pay attention to producers or studio or directors.......

Funny, I just watched it last month and LOVED the movie.

Glad I peeped it before all this. I could enjoy it for what it was.

Obviously. It was just a part of the news story and I felt like it was 1998 all over again...

We would do well to remember that most of the artists who produce something that moves us are suffering themselves, whether as victims of abuse or some form of psychosis. That’s part of what generates the art.

Unfortunately, the abused frequently become abusers themselves.

That’s not to say it’s right. It’s just a fact.

If you can’t separate the art from the artist, you might as well turn off the TV and the radio. Every other song or program has someone with questionable behavior associated with it.

Most definitely it is perfectly ok to separate art from the artist.

Ex.: Roman Polanski

It’s always an uncomfortable feeling finishing something you don’t care for. It’s not so much as finishing for the sake of it, but more like you’ve subconsciously put your body and mind on autopilot.

Since you brought up CK, I’ve been wondering how Pamela Adlon has managed to work with him for all these years? It’s probably an emotional gut punch for her, regardless if she knew or not.

I’ve already managed to get through it. I love Edgar Wright too much to let Spacey stain this movie for me.

As a fan of Brand New, this has been bugging me. For now, I’m just taking a brief hiatus from their work as the story unfolds. I’ll hold off on filing them under “dead to me” until I know more.

I don’t think that you can ever truly separate the artist from the art. This one is harder for me to process than most of the other revelations about horrible people in Hollywood, because I connect with music in a much stronger way than any movie or tv show.

Watched it for the first time yesterday too. I liked the movie a lot more than I thought I would, and I loved the soundtrack. This might go on the list of movies I need to own.

As for the character/actor in question, Kevin Spacy has always played bad guys very well, enough to the point where I just associate him as a bad guy, even outside of films, which up until recently wasn’t necessarily true, but based on the movies I’ve seen him in he’s been typecast enough that that’s just the association I have. Due to that I had little to no problem saying fuck the character, and the actor, while still enjoying the movie.

She’s come out publicly with her opinion. All in all, I view Louis as a chronic self-pleasure with ignorance towards social norms. From what he read, he asked before he acted. We can’t keep preaching about consent, then not accept when someone asks for it. Yes, there was the case where he was on the phone, but that’s not exactly trauma. That’s more of a “WTF are you doing, goodbye” phone conversation. And if you go back to a celebrity’s hotel room late at night for ‘drinks’ and only expect drinks you’re naive AF. And lets not pretend that people don’t have fetishes. It didn’t involve anyone underage, and he didn’t even touch anyone.
