Kinja'd!!!

Anyone know how to tell what amperage it is? Apparently these things came with three different power outputs and it’s not listed on the label. It’s a 1998 Ram 1500 5.2l.

If you google the part number on the sticker on it, does it come up?

If there’s no readable part number on the alternator you can google, call a dealership with the VIN and ask for a price on an alternator. Then ask what amperage it is. The OEM parts catalogue will list what amperage the truck originally had. NAPA and the like won’t have that information.

I get forum threads asking what output it is with no clear answers. It’s not the 136 amp because that only came with the offroad package, which this truck doesn’t have, so it’s either 90 or 117.

Are the 130s direct fit? Cause if they are just buy the biggest one that fits.

No harm in stepping up; unless there’s a hardware/mounting difference or a significant price increase, I’d suggest the 117.

As long as the case is the same, grab the biggest amperage. Also, you may want to make sure the threads are nice and clean when you go to reinstall, but you may need thread sealant too, if the old bolts had goop on them, you should clean the old sealant off and put fresh on. I’ve busted the head off an alternator bolt when reassembling because I didn’t and the threads were all boogered.

Most likely 136A, on my ‘02 Dakota it was part of the towing and HD cooling packages.

If they do not know about that, yes haha. I have called a bunch of times just to get a part # or something and never gotten shti for it
