Kinja'd!!!

Drove the car for 5 minutes and got a compliment. But it’s been for sale for almost a month and with no real interest.

Literally got gas and a guy said “oh man I love those cars, don’t sell it’s a future classic”. Had to be like - lol, it’s for sale right now. But at the same time my autotrader listing has gotten 18 views in one week.

Any tips from oppo car buyers/sellers?

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I’ll also add it the CHEAPEST one on auto trader.

That’s an incredibly low price.

I almost wonder if people think it’s too low.

I had about the same results with selling my 128i, not a single person was interested in it. In the end I sold it to Beepi. You could do what everyone else on Craigslist does and include a bunch of words that don’t relate to you car.

For example:

S40 f250sd RAM 1500 ALTIMA COUPE TAURUS INFINITY FORD MUSTANG CHEVY LEXUS AUDI CADILLAC GMC YUKON TAHOE DENALI FORD CHRYSLER INFINITY DODGE RAM NISSAN TOYOTA HONDA MITSUBISHI CAMRY

From this ad. I searched “Honda M3" to find it.

I really hope thats not it. It still runs and drives great, just has some issues and a ton of miles. For a Crossfire.

List it as a Mercedes crossfire

I might have to do that. Have a line of other RWD 2 door cars, so at least its relevant.

I mean you could put something in there about it basically being a Mercedes SLK, which is true.

Post it on CL instead.

I can only think of the most common tips, like making your ad stand out with nice pictures, writing a text that stands out and/or like some other people said, adding in search words.

For sale: Chrysler Crossfire, pretty much a Mercedes.

I listed it solely there for 2 weeks. But that was at $3k, so I should drop the price on CL too.

Kinja'd!!! "dogisbadob" (dogisbadob)
11/12/2017 at 10:42, STARS: 0

Yes, that would definitely help. For cars under 3k, it’s mostly about what condition the car is in.

If you made the price $2000 you could probably sell it in hours

I was annoyed until you suggested the SLK. That actually makes sense. “Looking for an SLK? Take a moment to consider this car.”

You’re right, I just hate the idea of being that crossfire guy.

I know, but thats stupid cheap for the car and I think I’d hate myself for selling it so low.

I sold my un-driveable, crashed SC400 in 1 day at 500 bucks.

But it looks great, and to the untrained eye, it looks a little exotic. 2k for that might sound too good to be true to some.

I’m living downriver an work in Dearborn and can share it with some people. It looks like it’s in great shape and is in a good color but that is a lot of miles. Why are you selling it and is anything wrong with it?

Edit: actually read the post and found what’s wrong with it.

Kinja'd!!! "Captain of the Enterprise" (justanotherdayinparadise)

I think the miles are hurting it, more than being a Crossfire. It’s hard to sell anything (other than a Toyota), with 200k.

Eventually someone will want it, but that person is quite literally 1-in-a-million. Patience is key. Don’t be surprised if it takes 6 months, or even a year.

In addition to the postings you have up for it, it is a nice looking car in a good color that is pretty much in the “why not” price range. I’d make sure it has a couple of for sale signs on it and park it in visible locations whenever possible. I’ve bought and sold some good sub 10k cars by parking or seeing them with for sale signs in visible places.

Yea its got problems, but thats why I think I posted a good price for it.

Honestly I’m selling it because after 4.5 years and 100k miles the exhaust leak was enough. Just time for something new, I still really like it.

Kinja'd!!! "Milky" (jordanmielke)
11/12/2017 at 11:47, STARS: 0

I hope it doesn’t take that long. I know its has problems and a lot of miles, but you could literally make $2k just selling hood/hatch/doors.

I’ve never had to list a car for so long, but you’re right, just have to find the right person.

Kinja'd!!! "Captain of the Enterprise" (justanotherdayinparadise)
11/12/2017 at 11:56, STARS: 0

That’s fair 4.5 is a long time for a car. I think it’s probably a fair price but it seems like it would need to be bought by someone who would be able to fix it or be willing to pay to fix it. Plus it’s more of a niche car than a corolla or a focus so that makes it harder to sell because less people are going to be looking for one or know what it is.

It is a pretty niche vehicle. Selling two-seater cars outside of a Miata or S2000 is not an easy endeavor.

Although I agree with others... That price seems almost too low. Take some new photos and relist if for 3500. See what happens.

People don’t trust it. You could post for a higher price and get negotiated down. You sell for a fair price, they feel like a big shot negotiator.

Win win

I mean, it seems like everyone on CL does something of the like. I don’t really appreciate it, but if it gets the job done then it’s hard to argue with. I usually avoid CL when I shop for cars because it seems to be used by people whose intelligence falls on the bottom half of the bell curve.

Kinja'd!!! "E90M3" (e90m3)
11/12/2017 at 15:32, STARS: 0

I understand, but you have to make people look at the ad. Adding something about it being related to the SLK is both true and might attract someone looking for an SLK.

Eh, one of the downsides of Detroit is that I don’t want to street park my car for too long. Especially if it looks like its not being used daily. I know it probably wouldn’t get stolen, but its something I have to think about.

I’ve regretted selling mine... The most fun FWD car in the world (FiST) is no match for a proper 6-speed rwd sports car.

That being said I’m not sure how many are for sale where you’re at, but popularity is highly dependant on region for these. In Florida there’s at least a dozen for sale near me at any given time. However in PA where I bought mine it was the only one for sale on my local Craigslist.

Good luck with the sale, if it’s still for sale when I get done with school this semester and I can justify a beater Crossfire pending on where I get based for work... I might be able to pick this up. Don’t hold on to it for me Lol
