Oppo, what if you could have any car and it was perfectly reliable?

You could have any car or selection of cars, like SUV, executive sedan and sports car from any car ever built in the history of cars and it was perfectly reliable beyond wear items specifically: tires, windshield wiper blades (assuming it has them to begin with), oil changes, and brake pads.

Brake rotors/drums will last forever. You can even forgo timing belt or chain services.

I have a hard time imagining my ideal garage but it would be something like a BMW 860, Range Rover, and Audi A8L.

The M275 BiTurbo V12 I have sitting in my driveway would be greatly improved by reliability. My S600 or a Maybach Type 57 would be perfect...and a W12 Phaeton, Volkswagen Touraeg V10 TDI, and that 2003 RS6 with the hydraulic suspension and also an Audi Allroad 2.7T

Any car? And it’s guaranteed perfectly reliable?

I’ll take a 2017-specification Toyota TS050, and hope I can get sponsors to pay for three platinum drivers.

Kinja'd!!!

Set the fastest lap average speed  ever at Le Mans, and with the perfectly reliable rule, my team will win Le Mans, end of story (instead of DNFing because someone waved at it and the clutch burned out).

With that out of the way, I’ll take a few other cars, because this is a collection, after all. And, I can have anything? Cool.

So, let’s look at the rest of the racing corner of the garage.

Kinja'd!!!

The R10 was the car that got me into endurance racing, and while I find closed top prototypes more attractive now, I still think it’s one of the prettier open top prototypes.

Kinja'd!!!

Williams FW15C CVT, because what the fuck. This also ensures that there’s a V10 in the garage.

Kinja'd!!!

Speaking of what the fuck, how about a mid-engine V8 racing Prius that competes against GT3 cars? I mean, if I can have anything, it’s not like I’m wasting cars.

Kinja'd!!!

OK, in electric form, it was never raced, but the chassis was raced in the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans with a V10 in it. But, I want the electric bits too.

However, it can’t be all race cars. I could go on here, but that’s a good enough collection for that. Let’s look at some things for the street, shall we?

Kinja'd!!!

Let’s start small. Very small. A Morgan EV3. (British electrics, I need the reliability rule.)

Kinja'd!!!

You know what, let’s go smaller yet, with an AZ-1. (I know I’d likely need things amputated to fit in one, but let’s pretend I’d fit.) This one’s probably reliable anyway, but if I can have anything, sure, why not.

Kinja'd!!!

Dank je Daffodil!

Kinja'd!!!

For some reason I think I’d be happier with a GSA’s size than a big Citroën?

Kinja'd!!!

I figure I have to have an aircooled Porsche in here, so let’s take the best balanced one, that’s also able to do slow-car fast extremely well (being quite slow).

Kinja'd!!!

For the daily, I’m going to be boring and take a Model S. Pre-refresh, probably 90 or 90D. There’s a lot of things I don’t like about how Tesla does things, but I’d want an electric, and nobody else actually has their shit together with electric infrastructure.

Kinja'd!!!

So, this is a Hymer Aktiv 2.0. Quite obviously, it’s a ProMaster, but I’ll want to do some things - swap in a Pacifica Hybrid powertrain and battery (making it a plug-in hybrid), remove the propane system and replace appliances as necessary (running everything off of electricity from the high voltage battery instead - that’s actually most of the reason why a PHEV RV makes sense), and figure out whether it’s feasible to have a split AC system that wouldn’t require a roof mount unit (reducing aerodynamic drag).

Kinja'd!!!

And finally, purely because the RV won’t be practical for hauling shit... something to haul shit with. (You’ll notice that it’s the electric one, though.)

To be fair, most of the actually reliable stuff is race cars, which are only comparatively reliable. And, the reliable race cars are also old ones that would be hard to get parts for.

The AZ-1, OTOH, that’s reliable and parts shouldn’t be too hard to get.
