Kinja'd!!!

354 days since the rear wheel fell off during a test drive, my Trans Am is alive. Been fighting with the bodyshop for months to get my car fixed and now it is finally in my possession. A full year of sitting outside not getting worked on at the bodyshop due to the shop owners incompetence has led to some rust spots appearing on my beautiful bodywork which i’m excessively pissed off about. I’d love to see that shop owner go out of business... but at least my car back on the road.

Good to hear it’s back on the road, and give the bodyshop hell if you can. Hope you’re doing well, haven’t seen you in a while.

Thank you! I’ve been lurking more than anything. The community has changed drastically since I started posting.

Same here. But I’m still here posting garbage, so it can’t be that bad.

Welcome back. Where’d she rust at?

Right to the left of the bottom of the bird in the middle of the hood. As well as right on the top of the fender. Two places I didn’t have any body filler so I’m at a loss as to how that even happens.

Looks Great! Forgot about both your choice of wheels and the wheel falling off. Now go drive it like the guy from stranger things season 2 (his was a Camaro but still)!

Thanks! They’re staggered 18x8/9 BMW style rims. Figured if I needed to buy new tires, why not get a little more meat and a little less sidewall than the 15x7 stock ones.

Bad Pontiac factory paint most likely. These things are notorious for orange peel. At least you can get those spots repaired (relatively) easy.

It just is weird to me because I did all the bodywork and paint myself. I know that hood was 100% perfect when it got painted. I’m just not comfortable fixing that paint myself since the rust spots are so close to the bird.

Oh. idk then. Your paint job is clearly nice enough that it shouldn’t have been a problem.

Hell, the community changed drastically from when I started lurking to when I started posting all those years back. Oppo now is nothing like Oppo five years ago.

Maybe some clod at the shop scraped some of the paint off sitting on the car or something?

Disclaimer: This is not a comment about Bandit’s situation

But I had to reply. You can’t always tell how “good” a paint job is based on how it looks. If somebody doesn’t neutralize rust, or allow metal conditioner to neutralize, or remove enough paint, use the right grit, follow the proper plastic filler directions, etc etc you can have issues.

Even glass smooth mirror finishes can flake off if the preparation of the substrate was poor. It does not always show up right away. Sometimes things are fine for a little bit but then issues underneath the paint pop up again.

Damn dude, managed to miss all of that mucking around with the paint place. I remember you sending it to the bodyshop way back when but had assumed you’d been happily driving it since. Glad it’s back in your hands though. This is part of the reason I have a hard time trusting most ‘shops with work and prefer to do it myself. Might take me longer than a good ‘shop, but will be a hell of a lot quicker than a shoddy one.
