Hi Oppo,

I would like to call on our collective auto experience to maybe figure something out before I take my car into my local shop.

VEHICLE:

1993 Honda Civic del Sol S

No upgraded lights/stock halogens all around

ISSUE:

Right front blinker does NOT blink

STEPS TAKEN:

Replaced bulbs

Cleaned contacts

Replaced Fuse (7.5 AMP) - Read that could be a quick fix

I was thinking it was the bulb socket/assembly, so I switched out the left and the right bulb socket/assembly, and the issue is still happening on the right front blinker

OBSERVATIONS:

No Lights On:

Left front blinker works when activated

Left rear blinker works when activated

Right front blinker does NOT work when activated

Right rear blinker blinks FAST when activated

Lights On:

Left front blinker does not work

Left rear blinker does not work

Right blinker does not work

Right rear blinker blinks FAST

Hazards:

Works when the lights are OFF

Does NOT work when the lights are ON

I obviously do not want to be driving around at night with no blinkers, so yeah I do do need to take care of this.

Drive safe out there, pass to the left and watch for motorcycles!

Thanks, Oppo!

Wiring issue?

I don’t know, trying to figure that out. I haven’t messed with the harness at all, everything is stock.

The way the headlamps are affecting things is making it sound like a problem in or near the multifunction switch, IMO.

Switch or relay?

Switch would be the stalk/column itself, while the relay is the electronic part...at least how I define it.

When the light the left light signal is on, all the other bulbs blink as well.. Maybe something is loose behind the dashboard...

Disclaimer: I’m not real familiar with Hondas.

But FWIW, the switch seems a more likely place for the headlamp circuit to mess with the turn signals than a relay. If you can access the wires at that point, I think it’d be a good place to test for power.

Had very similar with my wife’s old 92 civic. Turned out someone had jammed a wrong bulb in a brake light and was causing all kinds of issues. I’d start there know it’s a whim but we took it to the shop twice before we figured it out. Good luck

Because your right rear turn signal is blinking fast, it means that both right blinkers work off the same relay. So we know that the upstream parts are working, ie the relay and turn signal switch. You’ll need to get a multimeter and test the wires from the relay to the bulb to find the problem area. Usually it’s because moisture has gotten into a connector or ground and caused corrosion.

Generally in the cars I’ve had (none of which were Hondas) when the blinker is blinking at double speed it has meant that the bulb is out. However, on one occasion I turned on the turn signal, and it went clickaclickaclicka real fast, so I replaced the bulb and it still went clickaclickaclicka real fast, so then I checked the voltage at the socket and there were no volts, and upon closer examination I discovered that my car had two bullet holes in it:

and the bullet that hit the back, which I found under the trunk lining, had severed the wire leading to the tail-light.

I am glad you can tell us all that story. Be safe out there, OPPO.
