I wonder fucking why?

Kinja'd!!!

That $ amount can buy a M2. I can justify paying $60k for stellar M car, but for a Focus no way.

An used FoRS I would not buy, knowing how most of them are driven. Also Canadian dollar.

In my experience most dealers were treating them like they were made of magic pixie dust and would only let you try them out after committing to buy them. That usually never helps push lots of cars.

But those sales wouldn’t mean anything to Ford.

On one hand, that is a crazy price, on the other, those are Final/Limited Edition cars.

What kills me is the low mileage and it’s up for sale. They must ride like shit because I have a hard time people just couldn’t afford the payment.

It should be illegal to sell new cars over MSRP

Card like these should be “officially” Canada-only, with American buyers being allowed to buy in in Canada and drive it back down here. They could even include travel to Canada in the price.

there’s more to it than just buying it and driving it down here. my Ranger was originally sold in Canada, and before the dealer group could re-import it they had to replace the gauge cluster, reflash a few modules, and apply NHTSA compliant labels in a few places.

Again, the Canadian dollar might as well be Monopoly money.

You are underestimating the market of these. It’s a car designed for a market that can’t really afford them, but try to anyway.

$35k * 1.27 puts them at $45k range. $60k is still high, even when adjusting for the Canuckistani peso

In the U.K. at least, there is a slight flexibility in the price (though many sell below RRP/MSRP or are easy to get a discount from them) but they are not allowed to price gouge and are likely to lose their franchise status for doing it or repeatedly bad/poor service, there are so many rules, laws and provisions to protect the consumer here.

A lot of new cars, including this Civic, probably have clusters that are compliant on both sides of the border. Speedos that show both mph and kph, labels that are compliant on both sides, and common modules as well.

It may not be *quite* as easy as simply driving it down here, but it’s probably much easier than your Ranger was.

That, plus the fact that Canadians are overall more thrifty than Americans - the Civic has been the best-selling car nationwide for something around 20 years, and the compact market is bigger than the midsize, while it’s the other way around in the U.S.

Spot on. E9x M3's are falling into the same price range.. lots of people buy them, realize that they can’t afford a new set of tires for those big 19's, and decide to “move to another project”
