If I ever build a race car, I’m going to build some kind of matching hauler.

I really want to find one of these trucks and use to transport my Miata to autocrosses.

Tommy Ivo did an amazing hauler. C3 Vette on top, two dragsters inside behind glass, lights everywhere.

Just the fact that you’re already planning to not drive the car to the track will put you ahead of the game. Part of me thinks an old roll off wrecker would be cool because it could still tow a real camper behind it without the upsurd cost and trade offs of a toy hauler with a big enough garage for an actual car.

Alternatively, it recently occurred to me that I may have been over looking something: used ambulances. Big box ones already come on E350 chassis or better with a diesel, and they already have a strong, sealed, wired, insulated and climate controlled box on the back. They even already have a DOT approved storage setup for a full size high pressure cylinder for running air tools at the track. The storage would come in handy, and I don’t think it would take too much to make it a place to sleep. Figure some rebuilding of the front end will be in order, possibly a new ring in pinion in the back better suited to highway cruising and some modification to rear bumper to accommodate a hitch and one might have a rolling, towing place to sleep for less than the price of a good used 1 ton dually. Add in a lighter enclosed trailer in 22-24 foot range, and I just might have my retirement plan.
