Brand new cylinder head, drives as normal so far, no unusually high cylinder temps either, and I’m still driving with summer tires and it’s below 30F. Swapping winter set on tomorrow. I’m incredibly happy right now.
So the gist of what happened was they found coolant leaking into cylinder (wet with coolant), and the cause couldn’t be located, so the cylinder head and gasket were replaced. And my awesome service adviser told me to text him if anything changes over the weekend.
Now I only have to survive until tomorrow morning!

I wonder if it was the same headgasket failure point that the Focus RS had? I know they don’t share many parts with each other, but it seems more and more like turbo 4-cylinder Fords aren’t exactly screaming ‘bulletproof’.

It seemed very close to the RS failures. Coolant leaking into cylinder 2 makes me think about the leaking between #2 and 3 on the RS motors, but given how replacing the entire head fixed my problem, I’m as curious as those RS owners. Hopefully more evidence and info can be had in the next year or so. If this is Ford’s future then there cannot be any issues like this so soon.

Most of my mods are still on. The tune is the only thing off ATM, I’m gonna drive it as such until Monday. Also because I’ll be dead with almost 400tqs on summer tires below 30F.

I don’t think we’ll see any full-blown recalls, but I see Ford offering an extended powertrain warranty on various ecoboost models, a’la the RX-8, eventually. 8yrs/100k would be a nice bit of goodwill and make me a bit more interested as I have been considering both the RS and an ‘18 Performance pack Boostang.

19,000 miles before the issues started. I think I started modifying just after break-in at about 1000 miles.

I’ve still got the same 5yr/60k powertrain warranty and that should be enough I hope. Honestly, the Boostang issues have been sporadic and few and far between. Turbo cars seem to require more love and care than an N/A engine. My Focus ST was fine for the 2yr/25k I had it, and I have no reason to believe these engines can’t be long lasting. A few Boostangs have gone past 50-80k with no issues. Some like mine may just be outliers.
The RSs on the other hand...

That’s good you got it resolved. When the FP had a post about Focus RS headgasket issues I thought of your car and also “uh oh....”
