Kinja'd!!!

The Osburn 2400 wood stove is a beast. Its in the basement of our ~2400 sq/ft (including semi-finished basement) house and has kept the place above 67 degrees F without running above 1/3 thermostat opening despite it being windy and 15 out. I feel opening up the thermostat more than 1/2 might result in something akin to a mini nuclear meltdown.

We have one of those up at a summer place that is also a winter place...I guess its just a place. Its bigger but it heats the house without complaint, but my grandfather built it as a fully double wall envelope house so it does take much, even in the winter. Great units though, I would have a wood stove in my house except you can’t use them legally in the winter where I live most of the season, and for good reason.

yeah, this is a well-built, state-of-the-art-insulated-at-the-time 1995 construction home, I don’t know for sure what R-values it’s got, but its pretty good, if not as good as current stuff. Still, the 2400 barely ticks over to keep it nice and toasty.

We have an ollllllddd cast iron woodburner that we use at our hunting shack in our red neck Sauna. Works like magic.

Some of the older stoves were pretty good, as long as they aren’t leaky they make plenty of heat and aren’t unconscionably inefficient, these new EPA-rated secondary-burn gasification stoves throw just as much (or more) heat but use a fraction of the wood. It’s pretty impressive.

There was one of those for sale near me yesterday. I missed it by minutes. The seller only wanted $40 with all the flue pipes.

Back to the search.

Is that reason something to do with the temperature inversion trapping smog/haze close to the ground?

I know it sounds like bullshit. Here’s what I’m heating the shop with now.
