Kinja'd!!!

This morning, some Oppo made a post with a Lagonda , which sparked my curiosity. I went to Wikipedia and learned a few interesting things, assuming that Wiki ain’t fake news:

Only 645 were produced between 1974 and 1990.

About the only car more expensive was the Rolls Royce Corniche.

Single-digit MPG

Cathode-Ray-Tube Instruments!

Chrysler Torque-Flite Transmission

4-cam V8 made around 280 horsepower / 300 lb-ft torque

0-60 in about six seconds

235/70/15

Here are some pics:

It would be a mammoth task, but the most practical electrical replacement would probably be to get modern LCDs in the correct sizes and work up some C and a raspberry pi chain to handle/simulate the original circuitry and run it all. Depending on one’s feeling on the original engine, a lot of the stuff handled by primitive modules could be simplified as well.

It’s a car that really ought only to be undertaken for restomod by a computer engineer, and ownership without restomod... probably pretty dodgy.

Holy shit, they built those until 1990 ? I had no idea.

That’s the issue with cars like these (and the Rolls-Royces and Maseratis with the Citroen oleopneumatics) - you need many specialists with different expertise to be able to keep your car operational.

Minor point - if the Corniche was more expensive, then the Camargue must’ve been as well - it was the most expensive Rolls-Royce of its time.

Kind of what I was going for was that a sufficiently psychotic specialist with *one* expertise and a couple of hobby-level knowledges could cut the Gordian knot.

The CRT ones might be a bit difficult, but the others look like they’re make from 7-segs, hopes, and dreams. I’d bet with a good set of electronics tools (scope, multi-meter, logic analyzer) you could keep those going for “fun”.

Not sure the LS7 is the right character, to be frank. It might be boring, but there *is* another quad-cam V8 out there that would drop in fairly easily, and it’s the Toyota UZ series. The existing trans is probably workable - you wouldn’t want a manual in this either, wrong character. If there were only a readily obtained DCT...

So basically I should restomod one. Only if I can put an LT1 in it along with EPAS, magneride, and massive brakes.

Toyota UZ? For Shame, sir, you need a 4.4L LC3 Northstar Supercharged V8.

I said LS7 because, well, LS swap. With the Chrysler torque flight, why not some MOPAR engine?

What is DCT?

I assumed two things, that the bellhousing was custom for the Aston V8 (and hence not already an LA - pattern), and that it was a 727, which is such a rugged trans it’s been adapted to nearly everything under the sun. Probably possible or even easy for a UZ, therefore... and not that much harder than going Mopar since you’re parts-shopping or modifying anyway.

The reason not “LS swap” is that it’s a very big bay for an odd shape of engine, and the length and weight considerations of a bigger bore V8 might hold some qualities of oddness - even setting aside that you could make custom valve covers for the Toyota that looked more or less original and the shenanigans weren’t as obvious. No particular reason not to go *wide* bulky, and the UZ is a pretty good choice in character.

DCT= Dual Clutch Transmission. It would have the effect of making the driving *crisp*, while being automated and thus “high tech”.

Right size and configuration, but doesn’t sound like a cyborg gargling selzer water when properly configured. Necessarily. I’d also fear that a Northstar in a Lagonda would Get Ideas about what an acceptable level of reliability was.

Magneride is of the correct character for the ambiance. Not so sure about an LT1.

I think that is the same exact tire size as what was used on my parent’s 1990 Jeep Cherokee Limited.

Can you even find replacement parts for one of these? It seems like it would be a nightmare, and that’s not even taking into consideration the electronics. Which I bet Lucas had a hand it making.

Barely, the final one was delivered in January of 1990. They may have technically been available for order for a time after that, but that was the last built.

I just want one of these to be brought to Jonathan Ward (along with the monies) and have Icon geek out on this. If he can redo this with modern electronics and OLED screens so the driver can emulate the different “generations” of user interface design Aston Martin thought of for this, that would be great.

No, for precision temp/humidity air handlers up to 10,000 cubic feet per minute, and smaller standalone chambers (4-75 cubic feet volume). Also, stainless ductwork for ensuring room uniformity on delivery.

This week’s primary focus is on a 40CF chamber with a new conditioning setup and a dryer system attached.

Everywhere from pharmaceuticals (long term stability testing at industry specified conditions) to polymer testing to textiles to paper products, munitions, cigarettes, and in at least one case, antique archival.

Or, for industries that require humidity monitoring more than control, we have a small chamber for calibrating the customer’s own humidity sensors so they can ensure accuracy.

So, everything for humidity and temp control - including control for instruments of control. Niche business, but we have sales worldwide.

Mediocre, to be perfectly frank, but the commute is ten minutes and the hours are (at least in theory) quite flexible.
