When you can have all these buttons, clicky wheels, knobs, and buttons! Oh, and a goddamn tape deck.

Even touchscreen developers will admit it’s about flexibility. A compromise.

What you have here is zero compromise, high-level ergonomics. It gets no better than knobs and dials and things you can do without looking.

And the wheels each have a click every 5 degrees, so I always know EXACTLY how far I’ve gone. They’re also high enough where if I’m absolutely forced to look, I’m never dipping my neck compared to windshield.

I own two! One’s in the longbed at all times (AM radio only without my iPod 4 baby!)

The tape deck in my dad’s buick was so shitty that it made anything played through one of these sound terrible. It also would randomly decide when it wanted to play burned CDs. Most of the time it was FM radio or nothing. I hated that vile thing.

No heated seats buttons, or did they hide those somewhere else? I’ll snap a picture of the layout I deal with every day in the morning.

Sadly I have no tape deck, or aux port, or bluetooth so it is FM all the way until I dive under the dash or use an FM broadcast adapter.

Kinda miss having a tape deck, but only because I have some old mix tapes and a few live recordings I’d like to play.

I have my first car with a “touchscreen.” Although its just an alpine unit and definitely dated. Not a fan. That and I have to reconnect my phone to bluetooth every time I get in.

AM is good for North Ontario when FM is not available, & CBC Radio.

I tried using one of those in the W210, but the faceplate closes to cover up the tape deck so there’s nowhere for the cable to go. In addition, nobody seems to make a Bluetooth interface for this old car, so the options for hooking up the phone or iPod are extremely limited.

Does that fancy tape deck fast forward to the next song.

I had a JVC head unit that would do that, and it also controlled my 12 disk changer in the trunk. that was high tech shit for the 90s.

Kinja'd!!!

I had this in my 91 s’coupe, then into my 91 civic hb then put it in (yeah you guessed it my 91 cavalier z24). It ended up in my 97 civic hb that I bought in 2000.

Leather bolsters, suede seats. Higher optioned Is 300s had full leather with heated seats. I prefer the suede

The heck is that cavity on the left?

I honestly have no idea, I know there was a CD changer option but mine doesn’t have it. All the pictures in a quick GIS show the cavity or some piece covering it but no hints as to what went there. Damnit now I am curious. I’ll let you know you if I figure it out.

Update: Volvo forums to the rescue!

The cubby to the left of head unit is one of 4 things. Mine is number 1 apparently.

1. The standard cubby hole with rubber floor .
2. Same as 1, but with sliding door.
3. Cupholder
4. Phonepad (with ‘on call’ button).

I’ll probably turn it into a place to attach a cell phone mount.
