Kinja'd!!!

The Supra is going to start at $33,000 and reach to $55,000. If you look at every sports sedan, hot hatch, and top engined midsize sedan you will notice that every automaker is filling this price point with something sporty. Basically, the Supra is a 2-seater Toyota 2-Series and you should be happy!

The Z4 will start from $45,000 to $69,000 for the Z4 M, barely undercutting the TT and SLC in RWD form but right in the mix when equipped with AWD.

I think that the Supra will be running the same 4-cylinder, straight six, and transmissions as BMW. The hybrid powertrain that Toyota is developing is actually a 48-volt mild hybrid system that will put BMW right in line (nice!) with the Mercedes mild hybrid straight six.

The Toyota Supra (called GR Supra in Japan) will have a 248 hp BMW 4-cyl with an 8AT and 6MT, 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds and a starting price of $33,000. Add $12,000 and you’ll have the next Z4 sDrive30i which will fit between the 2-Series Convertible and 4-Series Convertible in pricing.

BMW will offer a 335 hp I6 in the midtrim Z4 sDrive40i. Toyota may offer the same in the Supra GT at launch and include an 8AT and 6MT like the Z4, 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds (less for the Z4 xDrive40i), and a starting price of $39,000 (and $52,000 for the Z4).

Kinja'd!!!

But the real point of all this will be a new 3.0L 48-volt mild hybrid inline-six that will make 370 hp in the Supra TRD and Z4 M50i. That will get the 0-60 mph time down to 4.0 seconds but offer no manual transmission. The Supra TRD will start at $46,000 (and $61,000 for the Z4 M50i).

The Supra will stop there (for the US) but the eventual Z4 M will take that new mild hybrid I6 to 430 hp and get the 0-60 mph time down to 3.6 seconds and start at $69,000. No manual, no dual clutch, but an 8-speed auto.

All of this is just speculation but Im closing in. Gazoo will do some higher version Supra but it will be for Japan only.

It’s all for an engine, just wait and see!

I would absolutely buy a $33,000 Supra, which is why it won’t happen.

I don’t know, that’s the same starting price as a BMW 2-Series and that has 2+2 seating, is known for being the best driving current BMW, and is still practically untouched by enthusiasts.

Considering the Z4 currently starts at $49,700 I highly doubt the Z5 will start less that that. My guess is at least 53k.

The price is going to drop, especially getting rid of the hardtop for a soft top. It and the next SLC will be right on top of Audi TT pricing.

Aside from the marketing standpoint (look at previous Supra prices adjusted for inflation), it would be far too close in price to the 86.

Yeah I don’t really think so....

33k is too close to a loaded gt86 for comfort and after all it’s a BMW too. I would assume a i4 version would start at at least 42k, around where the Camaro SS and the mustang GT fall with premium trimmings

This model codes guide had, in the US, both of them getting the 248 hp B48 and the 335 hp B58, with the Supra being automatic only. No mention of the hybrid there. Look for the Supra to be priced similar to the Lexus IS, starting around $38k, which is a couple grand less than the RC.

Does the 86 even get up to $33,000 completely loaded? I think everyone is overestimating this car and they are going to be severely upset when it turns out to be the affordable sportscar we have been begging for.

An 86 with ever single option including TRD performance parts, like the 1600 dollar 17" wheels, and the 680 dollar lowering springs, is 34,000. So I gues a total stripper model Supra being 33,000 would make sense. And that would put it in Mustnag GT, V8 Camaro territory.

A $42,000 strating price for a 248-hp sportscar? Im not sure pricing this around a Camaro SS and Mustang GT will be an easier purchase decision than the V8, manual, magnetic suspension SS midsize sedan that was praised for being one of the best handling sedans in history.

$37,000 completely loaded.

Zero chance the Supra starts at $33,000. Zero.

If you pile on TRD part, yes. But normally it tops out at like 28,000.

I’d guess you’re $5k low on both.

And away from the crazy sportscars that start at $55,000. There is a huge hole for a 2-seater sports car with over 200 hp in the same space as all the premium sports sedans. That’s why Nissan hasn’t killed off the 370Z, it’s an open niche with no other competition.

I’d consider a $38k Supra, but not if you can’t get a manual.

Yes the idea of a premium sports car being more expensive than the budget competition suprises you?

The Camaro is the budget option, the Supra is a premium vehicle that demands premium price

I think everyone is adding the brand equity of BMW and the Supra nameplate but aren’t adjusting to the actual market and what the product needs to deliver within that market.

I’ve owned 4 older Supras in the past but don’t really like where this is going. I like the price point but not too sure about the car itself. Just hope the BMW inline 6 can make reliable power aftermarket wise. The 2jz engine in the last Supra is legend and even the 7mgte in the 3rd gen Supra was very capable so.

I swear if Toyota doesn’t put a straight-six in the Supra, there will be problems. The world just simply isn’t a better place with a 4cyl Supra

The currently N54 record is in the 800hp range with a stock bottom end. The S55 is at or just below 800hp with bolt-ons as well. Not sure where the N55, but it’s at least in the 600's and the B58 is in the mid-500's with bolt-ons, but it’s only been around for a year or so.

You havent been able to buy a supra for $33,000 since the introduction of the Mk4 in ‘93

The supra is already out and it’s called the Lexus RC....

Keep dreaming on the prices - too low as many others have stated.

Also, don’t call this Msport package a Z4M. BMW won’t deliver a full M on the Z platform again... too niche a market. They will happily sell you an M2 or M3 though!

So I actually bookmarked your post to come back to and see how close you were after the  debut . At the time, I thought you could be close if a little optimistic.

Turns out you WERE pretty close, though I doubt we’ll ever see one in the $30ks. Also no manual :(

I’m glad someone checked up on this! I’m floored by the pricing of both cars to be honest. But, it didn’t occur to me that financing would be dead and automakers would rely on leasing (which allows them to bump starting prices waaaaay higher and only give you discounts when you go through their finance arms ).
