Well, I think i am very close to finally choosing the StraightSixDieselgate winner! We thought about the GTI, but I’m just not crazy about going back to VW. Pile on top of that, that my wife isn’t a big fan of Asian or American cars and she demanded a hatch back, the pool of contestants was small. We test drove an i3 this weekend and we both fell in love. Since she drives about 10 miles a day it would be a perfect city car. Plus, check out that georgeous interior! So, last chance opponauts, what am I missing? I can get a tech &driving and electronic package one with 20k miles for $20k tonight. I haven’t heard of any mechanical issues. Is it safe to pull the trigger, or should I pull the plug on this idea (see what I did there)

Do you not get that in the US?

We get the baby SUV x1 which I’m not crazy about. We don’t get the 1 series hatch here.

Ah nibbles, I remember with fondness a time when we could blame a hapless hamster and not Kinja.

No, that’s the 1 series, my mistake.

Ahh makes sense. The i3 is a good little car, I would have considered one myself if they didn’t cost $60k here.

Are you looking at the range extender version or the battery-only?

For a 10 mile commute an i3 would be perfect. Obviously you need to factor in home charging. The $20k versions will probably be 2014s. Check the options list, some of them didn’t have DC Fast charging. If the one you’re looking at doesn’t have it, demand a yuuuuuge discount. Also, the upgraded Nav system is a bazillion times better.

There’s not much that can go wrong with them. Tire wear is an issue though, especially on the inside edges.

The closest thing to that that we get is the 2 series coupe.

They’re very neat and I don’t know anything about them because electricity scares and confuses me, but I love the interior. I say do it.

I found a 2015 Rex with the nav and tech and driving package. It has the dc charging and Harmon Kardon for $20k.
