Kinja'd!!!

Yes, I know you are. Allow me to explain.

You see, I was actually all snug in my bed, but I was having a nightmare. The details will not be given here, as they weren’t that interesting anyways, but the synopsis is that I was fighting my way out of an area full of really ugly (but tough) Russian gangster junkies while driving an extremely slow golf cart when I was awoken by a stuffy nose. I got up to get nose spray to alleviate the issue (and to pee) when suddenly my dog - a half Chihuahua, half Pomeranian rescue dog, sweet as can be - suddenly ran up to me in my living room. This usually means that she is demanding my attention. If she does not get said attention, she pees on the bathroom floor. The dog is sweet, but slightly vindictive in a passive-aggressive way as well.

So I grab my iPad, throw on some track pants and a workout long sleeve thing I got from Invesco (both Adidas brand, btw), and walked outside with her so she’ll take a piss on the grass instead of my tile.

While I’m out here, I open Oppo to see that it’s almost time to invoke the Hour Rule, so I wrote this stupid (but true!) story for you to read. Or not read, whatever. I’m now going back to bed.

Have a Plum Crazy car to go with my plum crazy story.

Excuse me, sir, but I am not a lazy sod. A lazy sod wouldn’t be sitting on an outdoor couch under a patio covering chatting on the interne...

Yes, back to bed for this lazy sod.

So look what I got today in the emails. I’m posting here because I think you’re the only one who would mildly care.

Oh cool! That’s nice that your Nationals e-mails those things. It’s not true, but it seems like we just get hit up for donations when my National Office sends out communications. LOL

Happy anniversary!

Good morning Pat, I wanted to ask your (political) opinion on something. Not trolling, not stirring the toilet, honestly asking your opinion because you seem like a reasonable and a successful guy.

When Donald Trump was elected, you posted a day or so later telling everyone to calm down, everything was going to be okay. I am curious: do you still feel the same way?

For my part, I am trying to filter out his tweets and supposed liberal hysteria, and I’m feeling very anxious.

Thanks.

No offense taken. I enjoy frank, civil political discussions!

Yes, everything will still be okay. I honestly don’t read twitter and find everything Trump posts on the site to be a smoke screen for something else. How many articles have you seen on his tweets in recent days vs articles on tax reform?

The key is to focus on the things that are important and not to pay attention to the smoke. Some people will yell and scream about tax reform, but no one sits back and does the real numbers on how it will affect them. Some will point fingers at Trump because he said/tweeted something, but will ignore horrible things from their side of the aisle.

The honest truth is that everything is going to be okay. The Gestapo won’t come and drag you off to the gulag, we aren’t about to go to war with NK, etc etc. Ignore the narrative, pay attention to the applicable facts.

I’m trying to go where you suggest. The thing I come to is $1.5T in deficit-funded tax breaks, and where’s the $1.5T infrastructure deal that we were promised? Trump must be on of the most effective shit stirrers in the history of mankind.

There are some parts to his plan that aren’t being considered, namely the spurring of the economy and, with that, more taxable income.

Look, I didn’t vote for him, but he’s not an idiot when it comes to money. And as much as I’d like for us to pay off all of our debt, at the same time, debt can be a good thing. I just wish we didn’t have so much of it. With that said, I firmly believe (withOUT political bias) that we’re on the right track economically. Hopefully, that also equates to more prosperity for the nation as a whole.

I hope you are correct because I certainly do not know. People out here argue to the death about problem they know zero about besides what some bloviating entertainer has told them. People argue the hardest about the things they know the least about and you wind up with people throwing someone else’s talking points at each other.

Isn’t that the problem? Some people get their talking points from “entertainers”? And to be clear, I said the same thing to extreme conservatives back a few years ago when they were howling about Obama taking their 401Ks and installing Marshall Law to become a dictator. Every Ying has their Yang.

Trump is but one part of a three-tiered federal government. He does not have control of the Legislature, and he sure as hell doesn’t have control of the Supreme Court. He is but one part of the power play, and isn’t a “dictator”, despite what John Oliver or another comedian-turned-political analyst says. When was the last time you got your political talking points from Kevin Hart? Same fucking difference.

People these days argue points given to them by some random asshole they choose to listen to. What I’m suggesting is to listen to unbiased facts instead of narrative. This is where true enlightenment and clarity come into play.

What sources do you use for information about politics and such?

http://victorhanson.com/

This is a guy I like to read sometimes. What I like about his writing is that he’s a mixed bag. What I don’t like about him is his predilection toward professorial sermonizing. He lives in the California Central Valley around migrant workers and crime and he shows an awareness of the human side of messiness.

Here’s a Hanson piece that I liked especially:

http://victorhanson.com/wordpress/trumps-fate/

I think he spells out both sides’ grievances pretty well. If you had a minute to read it, I’d be curious to know your thoughts.

Thanks for the chat.
