I’m convinced that the only good thing about the Lexus SC430 was its rims, and even that is kind of a long shot.
So why does it work so well on an earlier LS400!?
I want it.

Has an AMG-ish look.

If you could get rid of the dumb rivet things and blend the lip into the spokes it would look much better.

Definitely reminds me of a mono block for a man with little taste.

It’s kinda funny because the ugliest thing about the SC430 was probably its wheels.

How about the Sc430's engine and drivetrain layout. I’d say those are good things.

Reminds me of what people in the late 60's would’ve pictured the 2000's would look like in the best possible way.

It strangely works. I think the wheels are a nice complement to the combination of the hard and soft edges on the body of the LS400.

I think the whole design of the SC430 was just weird. It kinda looks like a bloated Solara to me. I feel like they could have done more with the design but they erred on the side of caution.
Except for the wheels though. I have no idea what they were thinking when they paired those with the SC430.

I remember reading that the SC430 was underpowered and it’s handling left a lot to be desired. Then again it was designed to appeal to older buyers looking for a reliable convertible , not us hoons.
Then again, there’s always the aftermarket!

I usually refer to Syd Mead’s body of work for that:

First time I’ve seen anything by them, I wish it weren’t. Very neat.

Ever seen Blade Runner, Alien, and Elysium? Yep, all the props were designed by Syd Mead!

The LS430 5-spokes were the hottest Lexus wheel of the era. These looked like bad hubcaps. I can’t believe they kept the SC name for that monstrosity.

And yet, somehow it works, especially in that rear-quarter view. The cutout for the rear door mimics the fender, and the wheel compliments those shapes pretty well.
I’m honestly surprised, hence why I even bothered to take the picture, and then receive funny looks from someone’s grandma sitting in the car in front of it wondering if I was some sort of weirdo.

There’s a guy near me with a generic early 2000s Camry that has these wheels on it. Surprisingly, it works well.

You know, I bet those wheels would look good on an early Audi TT.
