This is an interesting piece. I read this guy pretty regularly for a conservative take on things, but I wouldn’t call him “reliably” conservative because he seems to call things as he sees them, rather than kowtow to one narrative or another. And sometimes, his writing is a bit of a trope, he being a college professor and all, and his arguments being well rehearsed. But worth reading, I opine.

I couldn’t understand much of what he was on about, I don’t really follow American foreign policy (but because I’m Mexican, and because of Trump I need to now,smh.)
I sort of understand the JCPA, I happened to listen to wonderfully boring and disturbing interviews of U.S. Senator Tom Cotton and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif for The Global Politico. (Obviously these interviews were conducted separately)
What I wonder is why is it so controversial? I personally think that imposing economic sanctions did nothing to curve Iran’s nuclear development (or in fact, other nation’s nuclear development) because their government is stupid and doesn’t care about its people, they don’t care because they can still make shady business with other stupid governments as their people die and live worse lives because of the sanctions. I am no foreign relations expert, but I think that the cheapest solution to Iran as a threat is this. Its cheaper than invading or than investing dumb amounts of money into their economy so that they become entangled with the world and forced to be proactive.
P.S.
I don’t live in the US, so I don’t have to worry about potential nuclear war, that maybe softens my stance on potential idiotic governments.

I like the guy. He goes on sometimes about immigration and I yawn and click away. He lives in the Central Valley and interacts much with folks there. I subscribed to his blog and I get the new posts and this one I enjoyed. I’m glad you did as well.

Yeah, I kinda share the notion that President Trump is encouraging instability around the world. But what about the JCPA? do you or other oppos understand it better/want to let me know of your deepest, darkest fears as americans?

The Iran deal was implemented so that we didn’t have to deal with a permanent solution to Iranian nuclear proliferation until the future. Trump hates the plan because Obama did it. That’s the only reason it’s controversial. The whole plan is to just work out a permanent deal by the time the current one expires. Iran is thinking about long-term survival with their nuclear program, so they don’t care about fucking their people in the short term.

Hmm, well that is fucked up. I guess that maybe if a sort of “Marshall Plan” could be implemented in the middle east (with help of the rich middle easterns). Just pump that region full of international dependance and commitment and wealth.

the interviewer michael weiss has a bit and he says america always sees things as us and them, but that doesn’t exist to the rest of the world.
The bbc did an interesting take on iran, that ussually gets glossed over by us docs.
