This is my all time favorite 911, this car in particular, a 1983 911SC. It’s a gray market car imported by the owner of my shop in period, and I’ve known it for 21 years. Sadly, I just found out its owner passed away, and the car will be for sale. He was a good dude, and I want to be its next caretaker more than anything.  A little rough around the edges, 250k miles, but well loved and maintained its whole life. It’s perfect to me. RIP, John. Thanks for letting me take care of her all these years.

That is very sad to here. I am sorry for the loss of someone you probably considered a friend.

That is a beautiful 911SC. I too wish I could be its next caretaker, but I am sure that would far out on my price range.

That looks like it was loved and driven. And driven and loved. As it should be.

Hint: Fill the logbook with as many of your shop cards as you can fit...

Thanks buddy, sucks. If I don’t act fast it won’t be mine, no idea how I could make that happen though.

Thanks, truthfully I didn’t know him so well myself, but the owner went way back with him. One of those clients it’s always nice to see. The car’s not perfect but it’s honest, so it’ll probably be about as cheap as a decent one gets, but I told the widow it’s still probably worth $25k. Too rich for me, man.

That it was. We’re the only shop to work on it since the 80's, the records are all ours, if not my cards exactly. I took these pics last winter, unfortunately I might not get to see the car again.

Beautiful car. Always a shame losing a friendly acquaintance who you’ve known for a while.

I love these 911's so much. I need to learn more about them.

I’d pay it if I had it for a nice clean unmodified one that has been taken care of, but driven. It is a lot of miles, but I know the shop that took care of it. Honestly that car is one I would be willing to sell my GTO for.

Talk to the widow. You never know.

ETA: Maybe not a good idea, she’ll have her hands full with grieving, arranging funeral stuff, etc.

Sad to hear that. Are you gonna try and buy it?

We did the top end of the engine back in the 90's, the trans got some work along the way, it’s had loads of maintenance over the years. It got painted maybe 15-20 years ago, but it’s a really honest car. One of the reasons I love it.

I really wish you would buy it. I know there just isn’t any way for me to, but I think you need to.

I’m beating myself up trying to think of how to pull it off, yeah. Maybe if I sell my 2002, I don’t know. It’s in pieces though. If I was going to sell the 02 for another car, this would be one to consider.

Yeah, maybe after a bit. This isn’t the only vehicle or thing she’s dealing with. I just don’t want it to get away from me without at least making an attempt to buy it.

I’m having a crisis right now, seriously. I didn’t even remotely know this guy like the family friend with the 308, but I’m having flashbacks to when I was offered that car and all the subsequent regrets for not selling my soul and everything else I own to pull it off. You know how much I usually hate cars, but I straight up love this one. I think I’d sell the 2002 for this. The only one that’s off the table is the Lancia.

I would stop being your friend if you got rid of the Lancia, but the BMW is just a 2002. Seriously if you don’t I might sell my GTO for it, but I doubt I would make enough to pay off my loan and offer them 25k.

I told her it might be worth 25k, but given the miles, cosmetic problems, and the fact that it’s not a US-market car (Federalized & CA legal, but still a pain in some ways) it could be less. At least 20 though. Still a shitload of money.

Yeah if I have the few cosmetic issues fixed I would probably get $20-25k out of the car because of the low miles, but then I still owe $10k ish to the bank... So that means you’ll have to buy it and then sell it to me when you’re ready to buy your 308.
