only thing this video forgot to add is that many countries will/might cancel orders from Boeing because of this action.

So the first half of this video goes on and on about how the C series does not compete with Boeing and would not harm Boeing in any way. Then the last minute of the video talks about how devastating this will be to Boeing because “every cent Bombardier and Airbus makes is money lost on Boeings part...the C Series will hurt its business in the US”.

So Bombardier makes a jet that costs them $30M, tries to sell it for $20M, Boeing objects, the US Gov agrees that’s not kosher, and this video admits this practice will “hurt Boeings business in the US”. And Boeing is the bad guy here? I’m sure even at $30M the C Series would have been cheaper than a 737, which lists at $80M and up. Why not sell it at a legal price?

It’s a little weirder than that. The 737 was not at all competitive or desirable to the buyer, so Boeing loses nothing in Bombardier. You can’t lose money on a deal you never got.

However because the C Series is now a part of Airbus, Airbus now has an upper hand against Boeing in the future when these planes gain more popularity.

Bombardier’s the bad guy for selling the C Series at such a low cost, and Boeing’s the bad guy for trying to legislate Bombardier into failure instead of trying to build a competitive aircraft. The 737 is not competitive in the segment the C Series sits in. Now, because of Boeing’s salt, Airbus has a strong lead against them.

In the car world, this would be like if Enterprise wanted to buy a fleet of new small cars. GM offered a mid-size sedan, to which Enterprise says “well that’s too big and you can’t deliver in time”. In response, Kia says “hey, so I have this cool new small car built in another country and I’ll sell it to you at a nearly illegal low price”. Enterprise of course agrees.

GM, feeling burned by losing the deal, decides to go to Congress to stop the deal (the one they lost for not having a competitive product) and succeeds. Kia now has a 300% tariff, meaning they could never sell this car and make anything resembling a dime off it.

In a lightbulb moment, Kia decides to basically give the car to Toyota, who will build the small car in America and receive most of the cash.

What a Boeing 717 might look like.

This. Airbus is playing the long game here. As much of a Boeing fan as I am, they have really found a new and exciting way to shoot themselves in the foot.

I totally understand the situation. But I’m not sure Boeing is the bad guy for crying foul. Embraer is also doing something similar by lodging a complaint with the WTO and trying to get a thorough investigation into Canada’s investment in the c series. All I’m saying is that bombardier isn’t exactly innocent here and they probably deserve tariffs that bring the cost closer to $30M (or just sell the things for $30M). They are clearly dumping here, and I’m not sure we should be lauding them for finding a loophole by “giving” half the c series program to Airbus. If the c series is so good and Boeing isn’t a competitor, why did they NEED to dump? I guess that confuses me the most.

There’s really no true “good guy” in this one lol. They’re all companies trying to make the biggest profit possible.

If the c series is so good and Boeing isn’t a competitor, why did they NEED to dump?

That part is explained around the 4 minute mark in the video. Basically they were super desperate to make sure the program makes a profit. They know that smaller planes are making a huge splash in America and they wanted their foot in the door. They were so desperate they “dumped” the planes onto Delta (the airline that said no to Boeing prior), making Boeing unhappy.

They should have just priced them at $30m, but I wonder if that would have stopped Boeing?
