If his SAAB has the triple carbs, I think it’s the high-performance Monte Carlo model (the owner’s manual describes it as “a sports car with super performance”). It has, not a mere 42 HP, but a screamin’ 60 HP. The 42 HP base engine had a single carb.
I had a ‘67 Monte Carlo once. If you keep the revs high it’s pretty zippy, and the exhaust sound is absolutely the best of any car I ever drove. I wish I could buy Randy Pobst’s model, it’s in beautiful shape and I’d love to have another one.
Also as a free bonus, if your neighborhood is full of mosquitoes, just drive the SAAB up and down the street with WOT and the ensuing pall of two-stroke smoke will kill every one of the bastards for a quarter-mile on either side of the right-of-way.
