My wife would stab me. A lot. If this is real , though, it’s probably either full of rust or mud at that price. If it’s solid but a non-runner, it’s NP for sure. This makes my tummy feel all squishy and my mouth get kind of drooly.

What floors? It doesn’t even look like there’s enough to be considered a floor!

Buy the car, take the VIN plate, and build a car from new parts.

Cougars are cheap. Double the price, and you’ll have a decent runner/looker that still needs a lot of work. Triple the price, and you’re getting closer to decent driver with some maintenance work. The magic 8k-10k price point will be a fairly solid non-original “restored” car.

I already can view $$$ in the one. Mechanicals are cheap. A pillar forward is all Mustang. Rear suspension is Cougar specific, but still not bad price wise. Cougar specific interior and body panels/trim, that’s where it gets pricey. And an aftermarket sunroof...that looks scary.

if you can get it running and driving before wife finds out, you can outrun her... assuming she doesn’t move as fast as this here vehicle.

It seems that the market for old Cougars here in the southeast is inflated. The ask on most 67-68s in “restorable runner,” condition is well over $5k even for small-block base automatics. Here’s a pile of rust in the shape of a Cougar for triple scrap value just because it has a title.

This $12,000 ‘68, to me, is an $8k car all day. This engineless base ‘70 convertible seems to be priced at least $2k above where it should be. Of all the 67-73 Cougars on the local Craigslist, only this one seems to be priced reasonably for its condition. It’s been on the list of Craig for over a year, too.

And are we now living in a world where the bulbous, awkward-looking ‘71-73 Cougars are n ow worth $20k?

I don’t want to live in that world.

Yikes, I’d like to live in that world, obviously. If it’s a true big block car, then it looks more enticing. I’m stoked that I got mine for $3k, but there are times I wish I would’ve bit on the ‘69 Mustang I was looking at that was far more solid for about $2k more. I just am not a fan of the ‘69/70 Coupes. I’d agree with you on pricing for those CL Cougars you posted.

Here’s an interesting roadster:

This ‘68 looks solid from the single picture provided.

This ‘70 looks ok, but a little overpriced for me.

I just go off the phone with my body guy to schedule the front end work on mine in February. I’ll also swapping out the scoop with a GTE scoop, since they’re a little more unique. One thing I’ve discovered is that there are at least some repop body parts for ‘69-70 (quarters, fenders). Absolutely nothing of the sort is available for 67-68. Your only hope is to find solid used panels. Dynacorn has just started producing trunk floors for the ‘67/68 so hopefully more body parts will follow.

super duper rusty!

floors are clearly fucked even if that’s just rotten old mats on top

aftermarket sunroofs sitting outside never hold up anywhere

rear fender has painted over rust

metal under rear bumper has painted over rust flakes

body is sagging so the front fenders don’t sit where they should

buy buy buy!

I think your “rusty” example is less rusty than this one.
