I was unaware that a C-97 restoration was taking place. Sounds like the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation’s Angel of Deliverance   could take to the skies soon .

I love Boeing’s Strato family—it was such a flagship of its time, the last cry of the piston prop before jets and turboprops became the norm, and it was also a product of the days when jet travel was more glamorous than austere.

Hopefully an Oshkosh appearance is in the cards for next year! Great to see this—

This is fantastic. I hadn’t heard about it either. Timely, since I’m going to do an article for December on the evolution of the B-29.

10/10 would rather have a turbo prop. My favorite being the Cessna 441 Conquest II. Their first turboprop

FYI: the link in your text only takes you to a bigger version of the photo. Here’s an article from Warbird News with more info.

Never said I’d have one, just that it was iconic and I love that it exists ;)

Oh I love old piston pushers, but personally something about the turboprop just gets me going.

Oh, of course, I prefer turboprops in every way from their engineering to their name (“turbo”prop!), but you wouldn’t put a quad-turbo W16 in a Bugatti Atlantic; its straight 8 may not be perfect, but it completes the package as a product of its era.

I now have a new dream car! Omg that would be amazing. Take off that ugly Veyron body and make an Atlantic body to fit on it..... Hnnngggg

Not the original, that would pretzel itself immediately! Theoretically, though, this has similar proportions...

Oh god no! I would never ruin a real Atlantic. I would have a custom replica body for it.

I want an Aero 8 Coupe so badly! I saw one at our local British shop once. i was smitten. Though my BF at the time didn’t understand why I cared and dragged me away to our dinner date...

There was one hiding in a darkened garage at the venue of prom my Junior year—some Senior was like “Look at that Jag”, and I was like “Actually it’s a low-volume British two-seater from a company known for producing chassis from wood although this one is on an aluminum chassis...” luckily my “GF” at the time kept things moving before the history lesson continued. She helps me take artsy Volvo pics now...

Oh man, thats a good friend. I would have continued my history lesson and gotten ditched by my prom date lol. Though she might have enjoyed my history lesson...Not sure.

Mmmm, artsy Volvo pics! Lucky devil you.

Information I received from the foundation said that this bird flew TODAY (11/7)!

Curious to know more about this I clicked on the Warbirds link and then the foundation’s web page as well.

In the comments one of the foundation members mentioned the plane would be leaving Floyd Bennett Field in NY and traveling to Miller Airpark (20 minutes from my house).

since the warbird article was from earlier this year I inquired about its status in email and got the following:

Took off this morning from Floyd Bennett Field at approximately 11 AM landed in toms River New Jersey proximately 11:30 AM. Currently taking on fuel for a flight to Reading airport in Pennsylvania. All went well with the flight we’re very happy.

I saw that on Facebook. Hopefully a video gets posted soon to YouTube. Pretty awesome.
