Purple mood lighting is best lighting.

Mercedes maintaining their desire to turn large sedans into mobile brothels. STOP WITH THE DUMB QUILTED LEATHER AND PURPLE LIGHTING MERCEDES, IT IS THE OPPOSITE OF CLASSY.

Rant over.

I agree about the lighting but I like quilted leather.

For the record it does let you choose from like 10+ colors and shades so purple is by choice!

Ouch, I thought the turbo I-6 was the main engine. I sort of has a sad. Merc held out longer than anyone, at least in the US

How does it compare to the old E-class, or the new C-class, if you have any basis for comparison?

Surprisingly torquey in such a big car. Not much lag. It’s better than I expected.

I think the CLA/GLA were the harbingers of small displacement luxury for Mercedes. I still don’t think you should sell a luxury car with 4 cylinders in the US because dammit I’m paying for superfluous displacement!

The interior (black leather and wood, shiny chrome accents, purple mood lighting) does indeed look like a VIP booth at a German nightclub.

It was sickly green when they pulled it around. I made the lady change it and chose the most ridiculous color that would also not make me nauseous.

You and me both. I don’t care what the numbers say on paper — I want a smooth, growly, visceral experience.

Otherwise I’ll just electric and stick a tin can full of rocks under the hood.

2.0t!!!

It seems bigger, but not heavier, than the old E-class, which (without looking) is accurate, I believe. I think it’s just appearance since it looks a lot rounder, and it’s pretty similar to drive. Definitely feels bloated and a bit floaty compared to the new C-class and oddly even more so compared to the W204 I got out of 20 minutes earlier—I know the new C is lighter, but somehow the W204 feels more planted than the W205 to me, at least until you start sliding. But actually that could just be the difference in suspension between mine with the the track package and the others I’ve driven.

It’s definitely fun for the day, and changing colors might be fun for a week, but it would get old. You can turn it off.

I’m with you halfway. I test drove a GLA45 and hated it. I wouldn’t choose a CLA45 for myself, but it’s not bad and I’m sort of glad that it exists. You wouldn’t really mistake the interior of either for a real luxury car, though. Meanwhile, I drive a C63, which offers quite a lot of superfluous displacement.

No you are right, the suspension on the W205 c300 (not C43/C63) is way more floaty than the more planted W204. I’ve driven both extensively and the W204 is just the more solid car inside and out.

MB is bringing Inline 6 engines in 2018 starting with the new CLS. This car was released last year before they started producing the engines.

Very much. I couldn’t figure out anything except the volume. Definitely couldn’t change music tracks. Was very happy to get back in my car.

BTW- thanks for recommending Mercedes of Lynnwood. It’s a little out of the way for me but they were fantastic.

Once you figure then out and get used to them they work. But they’re still slow and cumbersome. The epitome of form over function. I love everything else about the car though.

Glad to hear it

Facts. I think part of the weak point is those god awful RFTs. Can’t wait to see the new W205 refresh, the updated T4 should be great along with some interior upgrades and likely suspension upgrades should put the C300 in a good place. Lots of new competition from Jag and Alfa now which weren’t a factor when the W205 launched.
