I think to enjoy Initial D you have to meet a few requirements: you should be 18 y/o or younger, you have to have a passion for quirky cars and you have to be prepared for anything romantically charged to always end in utter disappointment, haha.
Although at age 30 and if I hadn’t watched it at age ~15, I’d still watch it today.

Have you seen the whole series? Part of why she gives it up is because she wants to pursue her own dreams on her own so she leaves takumi to go to school. Yeah he was part of why she left the sugar daddy but she did it a lot for herself too. One of the few bits of decent character writing for the series and a semi accurate depiction of how life goes sometimes. It’s a bit of a wake-up slap to Takumi to get his own life together and that’s when he begins asking about Project D and starts taking racing more seriously.
