Next April marks 7 years with the WJ.

What’s the longest you’ve owned a daily driven vehicle?

Hmm, I have a BMW that I’ve owned for 17 years (but only DD’d for 6), and a Pathfinder that I’ve owned for 11 years, and DD’d for 9 years.

Still own both but don’t DD either of them anymore, so I’d say 9 years - and that was a 30+ mile each way slog through Chicago rush hour traffic.

4.5 years, my Yukon from ‘98-02. The Tacoma is now in 2nd place at 2.5 years. FoST was probably the shortest (unless I had one that suffered a mechanical death), at 11 months.

the civic endured 14 years at my hands. but for some of those years it was a weekend warrior not daily. but the majority of the time it was my daily. so... 14* years.

When I daily drove...

2009 Vibe, bought August of 2008. So 9 years this year. Of course with a train commute and walking to the station, it’s not driven much anymore, but it’s been a daily driver it’s whole life for either my wife or me.

My current Civic at 2 years, 9 months. And, I have to say, keeping a car this long is just brutal. I just can’t stand having a car for a long period of time. Especially one I drive every day.

I daily drove my 2001 Outback from when I got my learner’s permit until I got my Mini last spring. 3.5 years (feels like way less than that) of loyal service as my daily until it was passed onto my sister last spring. My parents had owned that car since 2010 until it was finally replaced with a 2012 Impreza in August. It was starting to act like a 16 year old New England Subaru so it was time to move on.

Still a decent vehicle that could go another 200k miles probably. Though the thought of how many years that would take is kind of depressing. I don’t want to still be driving it in my late 50's.

The two cars in question are an ‘00 323 convertible with a manual, which is my summer weekend toy now, plus a 2005 Pathfinder which *my wife* insists on keeping, because it’s soooooo handy to have a truck around to haul things.

And by ‘handy’ I mean about 3x/year AT MOST. I’ve been trying to get her to agree to get rid of it for 2 years now. Despite me pointing out that we’re insuring it, it hasn’t worked.

Yep, and being paid off makes it harder to justify. Is it really worth $500-700 a month to get a newer car. Just for bluetooth streaming, and ventilated seats? Other than those 2 options, a new car doesn’t offer that big of a difference in driving experience (to me). I don’t feel like I need lane departure warning and the other advanced safety features.

It’s much easier for me to justify buy an older/classic car that’s at the bottom of it’s depreciation curve to use as a second vehicle.
