my entire body hurts. I spent the first half of Saturday ripping up the old tile & 2nd sub-floor in the kitchen. The second half and all day yesterday putting the new floor down. I only made it about half way thru.

I know your pain, we did demo and install in our living room, it is 17x20, carpet, carpet pad and a 3/8" fiber board sub floor all had to come out. Then I did about half of the hickory hard wood install. My hamstrings and back were wrecked for 3-4 days.

Maple. It was slightly less expensive than Oak and its harder which should hold up better with the animals children running around. It was also a lighter color and doesn’t have that orange-ish color of oak

I’ve got a little of that going on. I was installing bathroom flooring on Saturday, and a toilet, and a sink cabinet...

I feel your pain...flooring is the worst since you are hunched over and on your knees all day.

Also...I like the wooden stake bed truck (is that an RC truck though?) and want to do something similar on my F150 since the bed is starting to rust pretty thoroughly

the worst part was the 2nd subfloor for the tile went under the cabinets. I had to go around the perimeter of the cabinets with a hammer and chisel cuz i didn;t have any type of saw that would cut under the toekick.

I’m mildly sore-all-over after stacking around 3 cords of wood this weekend. The good news was my kids actually helped!! I mean, one piece at a time, but hey. Even when they weren’t helping, they were playing nicely together outside so I could still stack. I’ve been waiting 5 years for this day... and now I need a few days to recover.

The floor looks great by the way!

One day maybe I’ll replace the plywood bed floor in my truck with something a little nicer...

roofing is worse.

still on your knees but on an angle and with a 20 foot drop....

the last roofing project i did, we had to give up for the day because it was getting too hot to be on the shingles and were risking damaging them. that 20' drop is only a problem if you take the express lane down

o yea, i did that as a kid. I now have a wood fireplace in the new house so I might pick up some wood to burn at some point.

it’s not the fall that kills you, it’s the sudden stop....

Ever done roofing with the temperature below freezing? I think it might be worse than doing it in hot weather (at least to a point). You can’t really wear gloves so your hands are always frozen and shingles somehow turn into a slick substance with friction somewhere between polished concrete and ice.

The graining patterns in the lumber are very different too. Maple makes for nice floors that’s a little different than every house on the block. Having gone through this, don’t put too much emphasis in the Janka ratings because you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment. No lumber is impervious to life, convincing yourself something is more durable than oak just makes you think it’s indestructible and all the more irritated when something happens and they blemish. Know you didn’t ask for my advice but like I said I’ve gone through this and I wish someone had told me that in advance. The floor looks awesome though, congrats on a good pick

i havnt. i didn;t think you were supposed to do it that cold because the tar on the back won’t adhere correctly or something like that.

its just something i saw a few times while looking at options. I love the grain pattern. At first look you can tell its not the typical floor.

It will once it warms up again...i wouldn’t do it on anything large or expensive like your home though. This was just a 10x20 shed we were doing

i removed the wallpaper in the bathroom, replaced the vanity and recessed the medicine cabinet into the wall before moving onto this project.

Have you ever used one of these? I used one to cut the door jambs at the right height, worked great.
