What does your rego cover?

Is it just a yearly registration or does it cover vehicle inspection or something?

I ask because we have a yearly road worthiness inspection (MOT) on vehicles over three years old (they are trying to change it to four year old) and (£40)

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED, essentially road tax) for mine £30.

Servicing (minor service £159 or major service £280).

no inspections ever here in Victoria (if there were, mine would fail due to SRS light on)

rego fee $290.40

TAC (Traffic Accident Commision) premium $360.00 (compulsory 3rd party)

stamp duty $36.00

My road taxes were $400 this year. I’ve spent something like $2000 on Rego/Inspection (shaken) and road taxes on my $975 Logo. Of course, I also have spent:

$600 on DC5 Recaros

$100 on EP3 carpet

$60 on a new hood, $80 on a new fender, and $180 on a new door ($80 to have the innards swapped by my mechanic)

And probably a couple hundred on various bits and bobs of cleaning supplies, waxes, new headlight bulbs, LED city lights, replacement clips, bog/primer/paint/clear coat. So far.

Count your lucky stars you don’t live in NSW.

Oh and I can tell you are younger than me!!!

I’m sure if it were legal registering my Logo in New Mexico would be pretty cheap compared to Straya or Nippon.

It’s not so bad if it includes some insurance too.

My compulsary 3rd party is around $300, I think. Course, I’m talking US dollars, not Aussie dollars. But I’m too lazy to convert to Aussie.

When I lived in Sydney, I never got over my initial shock of thinking holy shit that is expensive followed by holy shit you make that much money for what you do? ...only to remember the plastic rectangles in my hands did not, in fact, have the same value as the greenbacks in Murica. Japanese money is roughly (up and down) 1000 yen = US$10, and in practice, generally based on purchase price, has purchase parity despite exchange rate. Straya... Not so much.

Add about a grand.

Yep, younger. TAC is ageist in a good way. My drive is bigger and heavier than yours but still cheaper to register...go figure.

Well it’s 17 years old. In 8 years I can import it to Albuquerque. Why the hell I’d do that I have no idea, but talk about my mad JDM street cred.

That’s for nothing if it includes your insurance. I pay road tax of €710, annual test €55 and insurance of €615.

My wife’s little 2011 Kia hatchback is about $200/year in South Carolina.

My 04 Grand Cherokee runs about $100.

My 1985 4Runner keeps going up because they keep raising the “minimum charge” and is now about $70/year.

None of that includes insurance or anything and we don’t have state inspections.

Last year I paid ~$650 for my 2015 Colorado. This year it was down to ~$500 and will keep going down every year.

Insurance is extra on top of that, none is included in that.

Really wish I was in a state that did a flat fee every year, makes more sense.
