Bartenders couldn’t find my usual mug. Turns out someone on Friday or Saturday broke mine while shuffling glasses around. I got an appropriate house loaner.

You have your own mug? Is this a thing?

That’s a neat idea, the only place I’ve seen mug storage was in Munich, I don’t think I go to one place enough to warrant mug storage.

On a side note, I found a bar in Kyoto that had liquor storage - if you had a particular bottle you loved drinking you could pay to have it stored there, Strange concept, but funny since the bartender said that a few of the bottles were never opened after the first time.

The only local brewery I joined the mug club with went bust... so I don’t do that anymore. But that “loaner” is awesome.

Yep. Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids, MI. I have a mug with it’s own number and name

...or at least I did until some ass broke it.

They’re making up a new one though. So I’ll have it soon.

My city was voted “Beer city USA” a year ago so we have a LOT if breweries and pubs. Quite a number have jumped on this wagon. I’ve been a member here for a few years and will probably remain so for a while longer.

Being a Michigander myself and almost done with the military the wife and I are thinking of moving back to Michigan. We really like Traverse City but Grand Rapids seems to be on the up and up. Which would you recommend? Obviously you’re in GR...

Woodinville, WA, a suburb of Seattle. We have quite a few out here and we are seeing a bit of consolidation in the market. Two have gone bust, and a couple others are currently for sale...

I love that you have a place where the bartenders know you and you have your own mug.

Oh, I’m part of a mug club. It was a custom mug and everything. I got to pick a mug name and so I picked “The Beerlander”. Someone at the brewery has a sense of humor and gave me #111. So my mug’s saying is “There can Beer only 1!” and it’s also really easy to remember my number.

Could have referenced highlander or Zoolander. Good that you got clarification. :)

Depends on your job situation. Traverse City is “prettier” and is very isolated up there. But this comes at the cost of being very touristy and seasonal. Also that is one of those areas where your options for things are limited. If you have the vacation time and a good job in the area, I’d go to TC. But GR has more opportunities and it is much easier to live like everywhere else while still having distinct culture and personality. If you’re a bit unsure, I’d stick with the GR area. Then you can pivot to somewhere else if need be. Cost of living is still pretty low in the area as long as you avoid downtown GR.

That’s a shame :/ but I think GR is about to hit that limit. I’ve seen a few too many mediocre etablishments pop up in the past year. I can’t imagine them staying around for another year or two. Not in the face of places like this.

I really like that place. Atwater is my local and I like it, but Vivant’s duck nachos are amazing, beer is good too.
