Here’s a ‘97 Electra Glide I just found in Hartford, CT that has just the right amount of tinkering required for a neat little winter project.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

It’s got all the stuff I want, minus a radio, and plus ape hangers. So it looks like my project would be limited to adding the radio and speakers in the fairing and going back to stock handlebars. I’d imagine that’ll be a small PITA because of the instruments in the fairing, but still a low level thing.

I don’t know what’s gotten into me all of a sudden with big Harleys, but it feels right. I’m a big fat guy, it’s a big fat bike, match made in heaven.

You’re going to have some slack in the throttle/clutch cables if you go back to stock bars, as well as some wiring work to do.

It appears the wires are inside the bars, and you’ll need to remove the molex connector to get them out in order to pull them out of the bars.

I never understood the appeal of ape hangers. They look ridiculous imo, and must be fatiguing on the highway.

I’ve had guys tell me they’re super comfortable, and I just can’t see it. My old Vulcan had like mini apes and my hand was always falling asleep.

Same here. There’s something about them, but I can’t tell if people do it because it’s obnoxious or comfortable.

You know, kinda like Hooters.

That’s all well within my skill set! Everything is coming up Millhouse.

Hot take: Speakers don’t belong on a motorcycle. If you’re riding a Harley, the only music you should be allowed is the rumble of that v-twin.

Carry on.

I’d imagine there are lots of people who feel the same way. I just like to listen to music while I’m cruising around, be it in a car, on a plane, a boat, whatever. V-twin noise, cool. V-twin noise AND Stevie Ray Vaughan? Cooler.

My F650GS has no speakers. I’ve yet to second guess BMW’s decision of this.

Then again, it’s no hog, so maybe I’m just missing out.
