Kinja'd!!!

This will be, apparently, Mazda’s future approach to in-car screens.

This could easily be achieved with a Heads-Up Display like on some high end Chevys. That way you can have a more unified-looking and less cluttered interior, and still have a plethora of info available at a glance.

Plus HUDs are just freaking cool.

My dad had a HUD on a ‘92 Grand Prix GTP. It was neat.

In our electric future...there won’t actually be the need for much vehicle data. Just speedometer and a virtual distance to entry. Everything else is just warning lights for engine and battery temps.

After that...in car entertainment and climate control. And that can be done without massive screens. Sat-nav is the only thing that demands a big screen and that can be tucked out of sight when it’s not needed.

Picture a return to the classic low tech, high craft dashes of years gone by...just it’ll be more digital than analogue...and even sleeker

Given that rear visibility systems (backup cameras) are required on 100% of models starting in 2018, I’m going to guess they’ll have a screen somewhere.

Perfect! The lame drivers with hands on 10 & 2 positions won’t be able to see the screen

Everyone knows 9 & 3 is where it’s at!

Yup. They had them in a few cars...I’m not sure if it was just Pontiac, or if other GM cars had them as well. Looked like this:

Looks like a segmented LCD backlit with earlier LEDS and utilities the Pepper’s Ghost technique for holography! Considering that the technique has been around since the 1800's I really shouldn’t be surprised that something like this existed a little farther back than I thought.

I don’t think it was necessarily even cutting edge tech in 92, but it was pretty cool for a car. Not sure how much my dad used it...I’ll have to ask him.
