In other news while I’m on my cross country journey, the 2006 Subaru Wrx STI that I was looking at has passed the PPI so I am going to pick it up! Now I don’t think this shop was nearly as thorough as the last one but they still covered everything important. Plus there are almost no worry factors with this one since it really is stock and there are no red flags. The only thing the PPI brought up was the worn tires which the seller had said already and this works positively for me anyways, I’d rather choose my own tires.

Purchase price is $13500 for a STOCK ‘06 STI with 136k miles and a nice list of maintenance stuff like timing belt/water pump and head gasket replacement. So the major stuff is out of the way and should make for a very fun car. I’m not too worried about value and all that but I’m sure a car like this will hold value if I don’t mod it or crash it. It will be my daily so I’m hoping to just keep it clean. I will put nice tires on it, roof rails, maybe a sway bar, and a catback. Otherwise, not changing a thing!

Yeah the paint is not perfect. And it’s got a few miles on it. But that’s why I’m not paying $20k+ like the other STIs on the market! For me, this is a great deal and should be exactly what I’m looking for. And if I don’t like it after a couple years? It’d be easy to sell for at least what I paid for sure. But knowing me, I am going to enjoy it to the fullest and drive it a million miles until it costs more than a house to keep operational. Then it’s race car build time!

Should be exciting to finalize that once I get to California next Saturday!

Nice! I think a non-STi ‘06 WRX in similar condition/mileage would sell for about the same price around here.

Very nice - as long as a lot of the seals have been done, it should be good. Need a test video soon!

Yep, same here. There aren’t Sti’s under 20k near me

Head gaskets? Before 200k miles?

SAD!

Considering every single Subaru I looked at either had a head gasket replacement or had a bad one, I think it’s a common theme. Hard to believe coincidence at that point lol.

Friend’s dad has an ‘06 STi in World Rally Blue....awesome car! He let me drive it awhile ago! I didn’t give it too many beans as I’d never driven it before and it wasn’t mine, but it would definitely go!

It absolutely blows my mind that used sti’s are that expensive.. Especially considering the demographic that buys them.. (not a single Sti was bought by a grandma who only drove it to church...)

I think 911's with similar miles are cheaper...

Edit: yup... 911's with 100k miles can be found cheaper... Just wow.

I like how it doesn’t have the big rear wing on it. Much cleaner look without it.

Nice buy though, seems like an awesome car.

That’s just really sad.

I don’t get how he keeps finding turbo models that need head gaskets. Only the NA 4 cyls have issues. The 6cyl and turbos never have.

I guess me and him (I know it’s him and I or something like that. Just don’t correct me) have the same luck

HOW?!

The mini has head gasket issues. Probably needs a new head gasket (heck, it probably needs a new engine). Probably the main reason is that it’s a British-German mix and those haven’t been too kind in the past. That’s why they never teamed up in WWII

Have thought about an ls. But I don’t want to die when I send all 425 torque to the front wheel. Also thought about that civic crate engine and that Mugen f1 engine that was on here a couple of weeks ago haha

Exactly this was my main reason for jumping on it. And I don’t think these will drop in value ever really

Exactly. Very useful mod to the car!

Which Mini? The engines in the modern Mini’s are either Chrysler, French (Renaut?), or BMW.

I didn’t even know their 6's could come with a turbo.

I’m not really caught up on my Subie lingo, though.

It’s the “Prince” n14 engine, which was used in various Peugeot’s,Citroen’s,and Renault’s. Absolutely awful engine. In short it’s an s

The sixes do not have turbos. Just the turbos and the sixes don’t typically have issues.

Ah. Yeah I’m pretty sure that was the one with a shit ton of oil consumption issues and vacuum pump problems, and also camshafts breaking. But the vacuum pump and camshaft breaking issue was due to people not maintaining it properly by, you know, changing the oil.

All of the stuff you mentioned happened on my car. Probably because I’m the fourth owner and the previous three never took care of it

Most likely. I’ve seen terrible things happen to that engine and it can all be traced back to shitty maintenance, or none at all.
