Range Rover Evoque convert. Just as ridiculous as the Murano soft-top, or more? I just saw one in the parking lot and it got me thinking. And grousing.

It’s both less fugly and more functional than the CrossCab. But also typically purchased for the sake of the badge like most LRs nowadays. I think the Evoque squeaks by as being the less ridiculous of the 2.

Don’t forget the PT Cruiser convertible! At least that one was available with a manual transmission (and the same turbo motor from the Neon SRT4)

My grandfather had one for years, he loved it. He had a newer Monte Carlo SS right before it but traded when it was too hard to get in and out of.

I’m rather forgiving of the Evoque convertible. It knows it’s a bit vulgar, but also hearkens back to ancestral soft-tops. The views out aren’t bad, and it’s massively better executed than other odd-ball convertibles like the horrid Murano CC, pt cruiser, and Camry Solara. It’s designed for the mid/upper class ladies to drive around stylishly and be on display. It’s a fashion accessory, where the Murano CC was an awkward execution of a half-baked idea that could have worked for a luxury brand, and maybe not even Infiniti.

I only have two real criticisms of it. First is the mishandling of the side “vents” that nestle below the rear side of the hood and make it look like there’s a panel gap where there isn’t (an easy fix by adding, removing, or changing the applique). The second is the spelling of the name, or, rather the name itself. It’s not so much of a Range Rover in terms of luxury, so there was no reason to make it not just be a Land Rover, other than brand cachet. Yet that same cachet is arguably diluted by having a Range Rover “lite”, but the question remains if the car would be as popular if it weren’t labeled a Range and styled to look like a mini Range.
