Kinja'd!!!

With every new love there come little issues.

On the way to work Monday a CEL popped up. It was gone on Tuesday and no codes stored.

On Wednesday SVC 4wd scrolled across the dash. Gone on Thursday, no codes stored.

Thursday night? Check washer fluid. It was full.

Friday.. It didn’t want to go into AWD and the ABS light came on. The dash lights would flash between 2wd and auto. All was good after work.

Huh..

The PO said it sat a lot and the last long trip it’s been on was over a year ago. So I gave it an “Italian tune-up” today. We hit the road at 6am and rolled out to Lacrosse, WI. 300 miles round-trip and I swear I felt the beast relax. There were also some worrisome low speed harmonics going on that just disappeared.

Average economy was 14.6mpg over 300ish miles. That beats Crusty by almost 5mpg.

Yeah, I want a second one now.

Random stuff like that can sometimes mean your battery is going bad. If it’s the one that was in it while it sat it might be worth having it checked.

I was going to have that checked tomorrow. It has a 5 year non-prorated warranty. I’ll be taking full advantage of that.

If it’s not the battery, it could be a bad ECU and/or BCM.

Pretty sweet truck in the background, there.

I’m suspecting a bcm issue and a wonky T-Case actuator. We’ll see what happens in week two.

Crusty? It’s a good 20 footer. I posted it for sale on FB today. FB takes CL to a new level!

Duct tape and Plastidip. I might just keep it.

Thanks! They are great. This one is a 2" lift and a set of wheels/tires away from being perfect!

What, you drive through Wisconsin and don’t even stop and say hi? I see how it is now.

Chevy’s of that era tended to have instrument cluster issues which would make the cluster do random uncommanded things. The most common would be gauges bouncing randomly. There’s a pretty good guy over by La Crosse that rebuilds them for a reasonable price - we use them all the time at the dealership for our used cars.

I thought you were out in the Milwaukee area for some reason. I didn’t plan the trip. It was a jump in and drive thing. I really do just go out and drive for the fvck of it.

The cluster has been done. It hasn’t been flashed to actual mileage yet. And it won’t until I tick some family members off at Thanksgiving. Just for fun.

I’m central Wisconsin - Dells area to be specific. Though over the weekend I was helping a buddy up in Stevens Point get his new-to-him $2200 97 F150 up to snuff.

Holy cow! Those are the ugliest headlights I’ve ever seen!

I still want one of those trucks. $2200 isn’t a bad deal at all!

You’re only about 2 hours away. Next time I go wandering I’ll give a shout. I’m actually trying to find an old friend that lives out that way. Last I heard he was in Mauston somewhere.

I know people who live in Mauston. It’s a sad, sad town.

Also the only town in a 35 mile radius with a thriving K-Mart. Not sure if the two are related.

A thriving K Mart? Jeez.. That’s Twilight zone stuff there. Last time I was there was in the 90s. I remember it having some great ATV trails. I got my first cracked rib on those trails. Ah, the good old days.
