Kinja'd!!!

My wife wants to drive to visit family about 12 hours away. She wants to break up the drive into two shifts, which means spending the night in Jacksonville, FL, twice. I am trying to get excited about four days of driving for two or three days of visiting her family, and having something fun to do in Jacksonville would help. Any ideas?

Let’s say cost is not much of a concern, and car stuff is particularly of interest, but other ideas that might entertain my wife would help. Help me, Oppo hive mind!

Autocross Mustang for your time.

IMHO, you’re probably better served making the extra 30-45 minute drive to St Augustine. Easy to kill a day there, whether you like history, food, beer, or preferably all three.

Source: Native Floridian who only goes back to visit on mandatory family trips. But I’ll let the Jax locals weigh in, I’ve never even been to the city proper. The “city” is the county and it’s huge. Most land area of any city in the US

Lets see..

The St. Johns Town Center area is a huge place for shopping and food. Just be prepared for the popularity.

Theres the MOSH Science museum downtown that might be worth looking into.

Jacksonville has a Top Golf now (if you’re into that)

Car stuff: Brumos Porsche and Mercedes Benz on Atlantic blvd. World Imports is a Lotus dealer on Beach blvd. Also,I seem to recall there being an exotic car dealer on Beach blvd just before the intercoastal too.

There are also some nice ocean side parks in the area like Huguenot, Little Talbot Island state park, etc. etc.

Theres always popular beach areas like Neptune, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach.

A1A along the coast is a nice drive, especially up towards Fernandina

That’s all I got for now. Of course, if you can go outside Jacksonville, I’d recommend visiting historic St. Augustine and Fort Castillo De San Marcos.

And a little further south, Matanzas is pretty cool and easy. I’ve been there 10+ times, never very crowded. Northeast FL via A1A is a fun driving experience despite being straight and flat.

They have a drift event there today.

It’s an hour South of Jacksonville. I’ve never been there but I thought about going to today’s drift event.

Agreed.

I used to cruise up and down Heckscher - A1A all the time. A little extra MPH helps the flatness *cough*.

Guessing Miami. That’s nearly 6 hours more driving...

We are heading to the Fort Myers area from the Charlotte area.

This looks cool and is on route!

Edit: Now that I’ve looked at the offerings, there doesn’t seem to be something that I can do for only a couple of hours, but it’s good to know about.

This is something to consider, even though it would result in going through Orlando to get to/ from the west coast, and I’ve always been told to avoid doing that due to traffic.

Ahh, so you were planning to cut west on I-10 in Jax, I assume. Orlando does suck, but no worse than CLT on a bad day. Far better than ATL
