I was bored with my Switch being grey so I decided to do something about it.
So I installed some Atomic Purple translucent shells on the Joy Cons. The internals of the Joy Cons are super sexy and look amazing in translucent purple.
I’m really happy with the result but it was not worth the effort put in. I spent 5 hours fighting with tiny screws, itty-bitty little circuit boards, and lots of tiny ribbon cables to replace the shells on the 2 controllers. It also took a lot of tweaking to get the buttons to work and feel right. It was all extremely fiddly but the end result is pretty awesome. I just wouldn’t do it again in the future.

I’m running blue and pink right now (bought the blue+red Switch, and got the Splatoon cons to host 4 player MK parties).

Only new noise is that the - button now makes a clicking noise when released. I might have put it in upside down (there is a notch cut out of one corner of the bottom of the button but it seemed to fit in either direction) but I’m not going to pull it back apart to fix it. On the flip side I seem to have abolished a strange noise the right thumbstick would occasionally make when it returned to center.

Over the years I have upgraded a number of iPods to use CF cards instead of hard drives. I made the mistake of offering to do that upgrade a 6th or 7th generation unit for a co-worker. Had I read the instructions beforehand I might not have done it as it was a challenging project that left me with a number of cuts and slashes on my hands that took quite some time to heal. On the bright side I was able to place the old hard drive in my 30GB 5th generation iPod, which is considerably more space than I have been able to use...

Holy crap this is awesome. You win, taking apart a controller like this looks super tedious. I had a see through purple Gameboy Color as a kid so this is nostalgia overload for me.

Do you just get these housings on eBay? I’m bored with my gray switch too, but I bought it back when stock was scarce so I couldn’t be picky. My plan is to get the neon yellow ones then maybe I can do the case swap on the gray ones.

I had that same Gameboy color. I’m glad I’ll probably never buy a switch because I’d end up doing the same thing as this list and putting translucent cases.

I love it. Breath of the Wild is an instant classic that I have sunk over 100 hours into (and only gotten halfway through the story of because there is so much stuff to do and explore), Splatoon 2 is an amazing multiplayer game, and while I haven’t played Odyssey much yet I have had tons of fun with it. The ability to play both as a console and as a handheld really changes the way you approach games. I am really looking forward to playing Skyrim and Doom again when they hit the Switch. It’s easily my favorite console.
