Kinja'd!!!

MY MUSTANG WILL LIVE AGAIN SOON!! The dealership ordered a new cylinder head and will getting me a rental car to tool around in on Monday! Yay warranty! :D

With one less head gasket to worry about (not counting my own), PDFs of every shop manual for the 924, 931, and 924S at my disposal and a random and unorganized set of tools, I started tearing down the engine to get to that head gasket.

Kinja'd!!!

After reading both Ford and Porsche shop manuals that a head gasket on a 924 Turbo is easier than the 2.3L Ecoboost. THIS is a war of attrition for here on out that I’m gonna win!

So they’ll honor the warranty. Great!

My only response is that I should totally buy an old Porsche for a project car.

But, there’s also probably a convertible/diesel/electric smart out there with my name on it.

ETA: YAAAAAS on having problems fixed for no monies! I still owe you a visit too, btw :)

They had better honor the warranty. Working at a dealership I see a lot, I mean A LOT!, of shit that should not be covered under warranty covered. So if they didn’t cover yours I would call 100% BS!

It’s tuned with a modified cooling system.

That’s some great news!

Yeah, I would expect the Porsche to be an easier job. That’s overhead cam, right? Pay attention to that timing before you get too far!

I can do the timing with a socket wrench and marks on the crank and valve cover and the process is basically a simplified 944 job which I’ve fortunately done once years ago! Once I have the intake and exhaust manifolds off, I only need to set it to TDC on cylinder one and remove the head after that.

My rebuttal is “only if you’re completely mad or a masochist”. Thankfully I’m just mad.

Probably won’t touch diesel though, because I like spark plugs better than glow plugs (what even are those?).

Yes, and indeed.

And? I have seen plenty of Subarus with their Cobb Tuners still plugged in get warrantied and trucks that were obviously jumped at the Pismo dunes get warrantied.

His modifications are very very slim compared to a lot of modified vehicles.

Oh, sweet. I didn’t realize that you had done one already.

Ford dealers can be dicks. Also, there is a difference in a tune and actually changing out a hard part that is involved with the movement of coolant when a headgasket/head is involved.

Very true. We get that here too though especially with the Subarus, but they are all about “customer satisfaction”

I’ve been pretty seriously considering a 944 project car, particularly with a LS swap in mind. I guess I’m mad. I don’t think I’m a masochist.
