Kinja'd!!!

Important information. The previous owner took the belt for the A/C off, so I’m guessing it has a seized compressor. Oh well, people survived before A/C. Plus if it is seized I could probably get the guy to come down on the price a little.

Now for the possible HG issue. First of all it only misfires below 2k. I don’t really know much about HG failures, but I’d think if it was the HG the misfire wouldn’t go away after 2k.

Also the owner said there’s just a puff of white smoke when you accelerate for the first time or after it’s been idling for a while. I didn’t see any smoke come out when he drove it, but he said he saw a little bit when I did.

Anyway, I’m starting to thing the smoke might be oil from leaky valve seals (Just like a Honda!) rather than a HG based on that. However I’d still get a leakdown test done before buying it.

The only other issue with it is that the shifter is sloppy af, but that’s probably just shifter bushings. (Also how does the red line of grammar magic not recognize the word shifter?)

Also I’m going to go see an Integra tomarrow. And possibly an old F150, Tercel, and EF Civic as well.

It sounds like there are a few sketchy things wrong with it, I’d pass. Have you looked into XJ Cherokees?

Haven’t seen any. At least in my ideal price range. I’d also prefer to not get a truck or SUV.

One of these things is not like the other...

Also, pass on this Galant.

I just did a search like that in my area, checking the box for 6 cylinders brought up some interesting stuff.

If he ever re-appears, Jagvar owns a Galant and probably knows about Galants.

I know this might be difficult given your budget, but I’d stay the hell away from anything without working AC.

Legend has a longitudinal engine, so it doesn’t count. I’ll just concede the MX6 since I don’t really know how hard/easy they are to work on.

Eh, not the easiest car in the world to work on, but also not the worst. I went as far as an engine swap on mine. They are picky about certain things to run well and parts aren’t necessarily cheap. I’d probably rank it as easier to work on than my LT1 C4, but not as much fun as the E39. Also not as much fun as the integra (although the integra became a lot more fun without having all the A/C and power steering stuff under the hood).

Did you see my posts a few months ago about trying to sell an Integra? That was about the most bloody-awful car I’ve ever encountered. And ugly as sin.

i remember it, it was an early 9os one...... those are good transportation. they can pull in the mileage, but if they are not a manual, they have a hard time getting out of thier own way. they are one of those must own cars......

...must-NOT-own cars...

Do you remember me posting about the Versa last Summer? Swapped engine/tranny, then swapped tranny? WELL, now the rear main seal is leaking a quart of oil in 1000 miles, so I get to drop the tranny AGAIN. $1,000 worth of labor and a $33 part from the Nissan dealership. Tell me again why I didn’t renew that gasket before I installed the engine? Oh, yeah: I had my head in my duffel bag .

have you checked all the simple stuff, like the egr system?, to make sure that its not just building up pressure, and pushing it out the easiest spot....
