Kinja'd!!!

Someone screwed up the install and so the plate doesn’t quite line up with the bolt. It seems to work OK without that plate, so maybe I’ll just leave it off. I will need to get some insulation in that cavity, and I figure that expanding foam is probably the best choice.

That is the door jam?

I would spray some wd40 on the dead bolt, then spray the great stuff in the cavity, close door and lock it for the 1/2 set up.

I’m not sure if wd40 would keep the foam from sticking though. If you have painter’s tape apply to the jam around the hole so it’ll be easier to remove.

None of this may work. Attempt at own risk.

I did spray the area with WD40 after realigning and tightening the screws on the plate/lock assembly on the door. I figure that if I spray the foam high and low enough in that cavity it should stick to the unsprayed areas and I won’t have to worry too much about it not sticking as it will be one solid mass of foam.

Get a chisel and open the slot for the plate. It’ll take like 30 minutes if you take your time.

If it was wood I might. But this is a metal door jamb.
