Kinja'd!!!

i just found this.

I don’t know if I’m angrier at the fact that it happened or that the person wasn’t decent enough to leave a note.

Most people who drive CUV/SUV/pickups are so oblivious to their bad driving that whoever did this probably doesn’t have a clue that they did this.

And they are most likely just noticing the damage on their vehicle wonder what asshat did this to their car and not knowing they are the asshat.

Nothing enrages me more than finding a new scratch on my car, it completely ruins my day as well. I only hope you can find peace quickly.

UGH Please tell me that’s paint from the other car, and not your bumper’s underlying ABS or whatever plastic.

That sucks :(

The majority of that will polish out with rubbing compound and a microfiber, but the wide black mark at the top is missing paint.

If you’ve got uninsured motorist coverage, that’ll take care of it, without any hit to your premium/rates. Just needs to be removed, sanded and repainted (assuming there’s no damage to the black textured part of the cover, that’s non-repairable material), reinstalled, and the left fog bezel replaced (cheaper to buy than to repair and respray).

I had someone bust a tail light while my car was parallel parked outside my work. No note. Parked there again, came home with a nail in my tire. I think I parked there ten times total and needed to do repairs twice. Took it as a clue not to park there.

I had something like this happen to my old car - it was very clearly a white car that had scraped my bumper, which was a dark blue. It looked bad at the time, but some scratch remover and microfiber got rid of it. Hopefully that’s just paint and not bare plastic.

If that’s the case, some rubbing compound or fine scratch remover should help take their paint off and minimize scratches. That’s still unfortunate, I feel for you.

I have a solution to this problem: I don’t own nice cars. Practical, sensible, mechanically sound, straight , but not nice. Sorry about that rash, though.

What would a note say from a person who hit your car?

“I hit your car”?

“I hit your car. Sorry”?

“I hit your car. Here is my insurance information. Call them and they will take care of everything”

First and second don’t help much.

Third is highly unlikely.

Also, I have seen some terrible drivers that they scraped their own car against a cement wall without realizing. So your bumper was not even on their radar probably.

If it is, benjrblant has a good idea. You may be able to rub the other person’s paint out.

Funny thing, there’s a type of ABS plastic used in bumpers and stuff, that my grandfather invented and co-patented. It’s got some long name that I’d probably mess up.

I know a note won’t help much, but that’s not the point. If I did it to someone, I’d at least leave a note to express my apologies because it’s the decent thing to do.

No note makes me think they just didn’t care. Which is likely. That’s what makes me angry.

Don’t feel too bad. The same thing happened to me today, but it was both my car and my wife’s car, and it was my fault. Also - a good bit of that will come out with compound.

That sucks. Reminds me of the giant ass ding I found in my car’s passenger rear door two months after I bought it brand new. Thankfully, a professional PDR guy was able to fix it, but I was still upset. And $130 poorer for paying the PDR guy.

Odds are they didn’t even notice. We had about 3-4 of these within the first year owning a big vehicle. One left a note. We pursued insurance for the cash and also sent her parents (she was 16) a glowing note about how awesome she was to leave a note.

That would be worse, because that lacks the moral high-ground of at least being able to claim you didn’t pursue a poor person for damages to your car.

I’ll give you that from an amount of space an Aztek is fine for sleeping, but could anyone actually sleep (at least without nightmares) inside of one after having seen the outside of it, and knowing it wears a Pontiac symbol?
